6 ITBP troops die as bus with over 30 security personnel meets with accident

A massive rescue operation was launched after a bus carrying more than 30 security personnel - of the ITBP (Indo-Tibetan Border Police) and the Several casualties are feared.((ANI) ) "In a road accident near Chandanwari. All possible assistance is being provided to the injured personnel," J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted. Former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah also tweeted condolences. "I send my condolences to the families & colleagues of the brave ITBP jawans killed in an accident in Pahalgam today. A number of ITBP personnel have been injured. Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday "felt sorry about the targetted killings in Shopian" and expressed condolences to the family of the six Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel who died in the tragic Pahalgam bus accident. "Terribly sorry to hear about the targeted killing in Shopian. Condolences to the deceased's family. GOI (Government of India) continues to behave like an ostrich with its head buried deep under the sand. Every resident of J&K has become cannon fodder in Delhi's quest for 'manufactured normalcy'," Mufti said in a tweet. Thirty-three personnel sustained injuries in the accident that took place when a civilian bus carrying 37 ITBP personnel and two J-K Police was on its way to Pahalgam from Chandanwari when it rolled down into the deep gorge reportedly after its breaks malfunctioned, a senior ITBP official said. There were around 37 soldiers of ITBP and 2 police officers in the bus, as the reason of the crash is said to be brake failure, for which the bus fell down in the 200 feet deep cliff.

The bus, which was carrying 39 ITBP troopers returning from Amarnath Yatra duty, fell in a river near the Chandanwari area of Pahalgam. The bus was on its way from Chandanwari to police control room in Srinagar. The police said the injured were airlifted to Army Hospital in Srinagar for treatment. The deceased personnel were identified as Head Constable Dula Singh (Taran Taran, Punjab), Constable Abhiraj (Lakhisarai, Bihar), Constable Amit K. (Etah, UP), Constable D. Raj Shekhar (Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh), Constable Subhash C. Bairwal (Sikar, Rajasthan) Constable Dinesh Bohra (Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand) and Constable Sandeep Kumar ( Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir), according to the ITBP. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Dr. Piyush Singla said medical teams have been put on high alert and 19 ambulances were earlier rushed to the spot. Following the accident, a rescue operation was undertaken by ITBP personnel. The accident took place at 1:25 pm on Sunday. Personnel from ITBP academy rushed to the accident site and started the rescue operation.
