About Janam TV Janam TV is an Indian news and entertainment channel broadcasting in the Malayalam language. This channel was launched on 19 April 2015. The channel has its registered office at Thrissur and studios at Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. It is owned by Janam Multimedia Ltd, a company chaired by noted Malayalam film director Priyadarshan.

Chennai: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will soon expand its Kerala television channel to Tamil Nadu, where both the ruling DMK and opposition AIADMK have owned TV channels for decades. Senior BJP state functionary announced the expansion of its Kerala TV channel to Tamil Nadu (REUTERS) A senior BJP state functionary said it has been decided to expand Kerala’s Janam TV launched in April 2015 to Tamil Nadu under the same name. “It will be the same team running the channel here and we will support them and the Tamil version will start very soon,” he said. Party leaders said the channel was likely to start when BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai would start his padyatra later this month. But since Annamalai is busy with Karnataka elections slated for May 10, his padyatra is likely to be postponed along with the channel’s launch. But, it would be on air ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, people in the know of the matter said. “We will rope in a celebrity to launch the channel.” This is among BJP’s efforts to make inroads in the state where its image as the “saffron party” doesn’t find favour despite being in an alliance with the AIADMK. Chennai: The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party is set to launch a regional TV channel for the state. The TV channel, to be operated from Alwarpet in the city, will be an extension of the party’s Kerala mouthpiece—Janam TV, The Indian Express reported. A senior BJP leader is quoted as saying that the channel will retain its sister concern’s name. The initial cost for setting up the channel, estimated to be around Rs 15 crore, will be mobilized through the resources of the BJP and the RSS in the state. The senior leader described state BJP’s ambitious project as a “baby of K Annamalai”. Annamalai, the party’s state chief in his late 30s, will oversee the project, according to the report. The BJP leadership believes that having a channel will help the party cover Annamalai’s statewide march beginning April 14, 2023. Janam TV in Kerala is reportedly commercially ailing alongside facing complaints of low pay. But the channel was key to whip up protests during the Sabarimala controversy, playing up the propaganda of BJP and RSS. The agitation helped the channel to achieve better ratings than most other mainstream news channels until the controversy lasted. A day after the Coordinating Editor of Janam TV, Anil Nambiar was questioned by the Customs Department with regard to the gold smuggling case, the journalist has denied all allegations and accused other media houses of twisting ‘facts’. Anil Nambiar has also said that he will temporarily stay away from Janam TV, till his name is cleared. What made the controversy around Anil Nambiar murkier is a statement by key accused Swapna Suresh, in which she claimed that the journalist had asked her to make the UAE Consulate General release a statement that the bag with gold was not a diplomatic bag. In her statement to the Customs Department, Swapna said that she has known Anil Nambiar for a while and they first got acquainted as he had sought herhelp over a cheating case against him in the UAE. Fearing arrest, Anil could not visit UAE though he wanted to interview businessman Atlas Ramachandran, who was in the country during that time. Swapna states that in 2018 Anil first contacted Sarith PS, who is now the first accused in the gold smuggling case seeking help in the matter. Sarith then introduced Anil to Swapna Suresh, who was at that time a staff of the UAE Consulate in Thiruvananthapuram.
