Govt to bear higher cost for projects under JJM

While under JJM the fund sharing pattern between Centre and states is 50:50, the Considering the groundwater conditions in the state, the state government had recently given financial approval to five major surface water projects to provide tap water connections to 15 lakhs households in 5,739 villages under the JJM, but the Union government won't bear 50% of the total project costs for a few reasons. "The most important reason being these five projects would also provide surface water to several urban areas of the state. Since tap connections in the urban areas are not considered under JJM project, the Union government would pay its contribution only for the cost incurred on rural connections," Dinesh Goyel, chief engineer (technical, JJM), told TOI. The five projects are: Indira Gandhi Canal Project based Sikar-Jhunjhunu Project, Alwar-Bharatpur Project, Chambal-Karauli-Sawai Madhopur Project, Jakham Dam Project, and Kalitir Project. According to an estimate, the state government would end up paying at least 71%, 61%, 66%, 57% and 56%, respectively, for these.
