'I’m devastated for Jofra Archer'

England fast bowler Jofra Archer has been going through a tough time in his career as he’s been once again ruled out of the entire English summer due to a recurring stress fracture in his right elbow. The speedster last featured in IPL 2023 where he could only play five matches with his injury troubling him throughout the tournament. “I have spoken to him. ‘I was lucky enough to get to know a lot of players during my career and a lot of them are good friends so I messaged him as a friend as opposed to anything else. Just to make sure everything is okay and tell him there’s always a way back. Sometimes you can struggle to see that after this kind of setback. So, it was just a message of support really,” Notably, Archer made a comeback to international cricket after 22 months earlier this year during the ODI series between South Africa and England. However, his hopes of being a part of another Ashes series at home were crushed when his elbow injury began troubling him again during the IPL. The 28-year-old last played for England during the T20I series against Bangladesh in March 2023. The speedster etched his name in history books as he bowled England to victory in the Super Over of the 2019 ODI World Cup final. Archer picked up 20 wickets during the World Cup and was the third-highest wicket-taker of the tournament. He will miss a very important summer for English cricket: Morgan Further talking about his former teammate, Morgan said that he’s devastated for Archer and he w...

Jofra Archer injury: England bowler returns early from IPL

The 28-year-old has been struggling with a long-term elbow injury and has made just five appearances for Mumbai Indians this year, taking two wickets. The England and Wales Cricket Board said Archer would undergo a "period of rest and rehabilitation". The first Test against Australia takes place from 16-20 June at Edgbaston. Archer had minor surgery external-link on his right elbow earlier in April after missing four IPL matches. It was Archer's fifth surgery on the area in the past two years, having first struggled with the problem during England's tour of India in 2021. He did not play for England for 22 months before a return to white-ball action in February 2023, taking six wickets in England's ODI victory against South Africa. "Archer has been recovering from right elbow surgery. However, pushing through the discomfort whilst recently playing, hoping it will settle, has proven challenging," an ECB statement read. "Therefore, it has been agreed for him to return to the UK for a period of rest and rehabilitation to give him the best opportunity for a full recovery." Archer will be replaced at Mumbai Indians by England team-mate Chris Jordan and will work with Sussex and the ECB medical department on his rehabilitation. Analysis - 'Huge concern for Archer' BBC Sport chief cricket writer Stephan Shemilt England managing director Rob Key said only last week he hoped Archer would be available to play against Ireland on 1 June, but any talk of a return to Test cricket this s...

Highs and lows of Jofra Archer’s England career after Ashes setback

Memories to last a lifetime — Jofra Archer (@JofraArcher) High – The Barbados-born seamer was selected for England’s 2019 World Cup a matter of months after becoming eligible following a modification of the ECB’s rules. He played a crucial role in their run to the final, ultimately taking the responsibility of closing out victory over New Zealand by bowling the decisive super over. High – Fresh from his World Cup triumph, he was parachuted into England’s Test team for the second match of the 2019 Ashes. His impact was instant and eye-catching. He lit up the drawn contest with an unforgettable spell of hostile high-speed bowling, eventually felling the in-form Steve Smith with a 93mph bouncer that forced the Australian out of the next match with concussion. Archer (centre) enjoyed a brilliant Test debut in 2019 (John Walton/PA). Low – In his first overseas Test, Archer was called on to send down a gruelling 42 overs against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui in what would subsequently go down as an error of judgement from captain Joe Root. Archer was also criticised for riding a segway on the field before play on day one and suffered racial abuse from a home fan. Low – Missed the last three Tests of the 2019-20 tour of South Africa through injury. Invited to prove himself with a fiery spell in the nets ahead of the final Test in Johannesburg, but only succeeded in exacerbating his problems and was later diagnosed with a stress fracture of the right elbow.
