Kamlesh Jains officially joins as Team India's new physio

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the appointment of Kamlesh Jain as the physio of the Indian men’s national team under the staff of head coach, Rahul Dravid.The former Kolkata Knight Riders support staff member, who was with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise for almost 10 years, including three years as the head physio, was recently recruited by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in place Nitin Patel, who has moved to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. He was part of the Indian team’s practice session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Monday. The preparations are rife for the team’s 5-match T20I series against South Africa under KL Rahul’s leadership.The series begins on June 9 in Delhi followed by matches in Cuttack (June 12), Vizag (June 14), Rajkot (June 17), and completing the tour on June 19 in Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

According to reports, Jain has managed to impress head coach Rahul Dravid, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, and NCA head VVS Laxman during an interview. The announcement is yet to be made official, despite being orally conveyed to Jain who is from Chennai. Nitin Patel, the former head physio of the Indian cricket team, was in the position since August 2019 but he took over as head of Sports Science and Sports Medicine at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru which brought about a vacancy for the position. It has to be noted that, Jain has been with the Kolkata Knight Riders since 2012, and has been identified as the successor of Patel. Kamlesh Jain may assume the role from the upcoming home series against SA Jain had been an assistant physio at the KKR under Andrew Leipus for seven years until 2020 when he was promoted to the head physio role. According to Cricbuzz, Jain, a former support staff member with the Kolkata Knight Riders, replaces Nitin Patel, who was with the squad until their previous assignment and has now been transferred to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. According to the report, Jain joined the Indian team on Monday (June 6) in New Delhi. On Monday, the new-look India team, led by K.L Rahul, practised for about three hours at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with Jain assisting the players. The teams will travel to Cuttack for the second T20I on June 12, Vizag for the 14th T20I on June 14, Rajkot for the 17th T20I on June 17, and Bengaluru for the 19th T20I on June 19.
