Kanjhawala death case: Delhi Police holds press conference after latest revelation on Anjali Singh death

Image Source : ANI The case saw several twists and turns since it came to light Kanjhawala death case: Not indulging much in details, the Delhi Police on Tuesday confirmed that the unfortunate death of Anjali Singh was due to an accident. The 20-year-old woman was dragged after her two-wheeler was hit by a car in outer Delhi, police said on Tuesday. The police also confirmed that there was another woman with the deceased at the time of the accident. "Kanjhawala death case | The deceased was not alone on her scooty. A girl was with her at the time of the accident. She walked away from the spot after the accident. Now we have an eyewitness of the incident. Her statement will be recorded under 164 CrPC," Sagar Preet Hooda, Special CP Law and Order, Zone -2, said in his very short media address at police headquarters. Earlier police said that the deceased, Anjali Singh, was not alone during the accident but her friend was also injured on the ill-fated day. According to Delhi police, her friend also suffered minor injuries before she fled from the spot. Notably, Anjali Singh killed in the early hours of New Year after her scooter was hit by a car, was dragged for 12 kilometres under the vehicle on the city's roads, police said and added culpable homicide among other stringent sections on Monday in the case following protests over alleged "shoddy investigation". Delhi car drag horror: Witness reveals clinching details of Kanjhawala accident

Nidhi, a lone eyewitness and the victim's friend, said she had been riding pillion on Anjali's scooter when the incident took place. Nidhi said she had escaped the accident with minor injuries but the victim slipped underneath the car upon collision. She also alleged that the accused deliberately kept driving despite knowing that the victim was stuck underneath the vehicle. "They were aware that a woman was underneath their car. To get rid of her, they even moved their car back and forth, but Anjali had gotten entangled with some part of the vehicle. Anjali was screaming, 'Bachao Bachao (save me, save me)', but they [car occupants] didn't pay any heed to her cries and drove away," Nidhi told a TV news channel. When asked why she didn't inform the police, Nidhi said, "My brain had stopped working after the accident. I was completely hopeless and scared. Moreover, everything happened so quickly that I was not able to do anything." "I went straight home. Had I informed Anjali's family about the accident, they would have blamed me," she said. WATCH | While narrating the sequence of events, the eyewitness said a fight had erupted between them over who was to drive the two-wheeler. Nidhi claimed that Anjali was inebriated and threatened to jump off the scooter if she was not allowed to drive her vehicle. Meanwhile, Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal questioned the insensitivity of the witness for not helping her friend and walking away after the accident. "Anja...

Kanjhawala horror is no ‘accident’: Delhi’s head hangs in shame again 11 years after Nirbhaya

The police received a call at 3:24 am informing them of a body stuck to the wheels of a grey Baleno. Police pickets on the route of the car were alerted. Another call was received at 4:11 am informing cops about a body found lying on the road. When police reached the spot and summoned the crime and forensic teams, the woman was shifted to a hospital where she was confirmed brought dead. Police say they found the woman in a grievous condition – her ribs were broken and visible, there were major injuries to her forehead, hands and legs. Even policing in the national capital seems to be focused on the VIP areas of the city. According to a PTI report, 1,600 pickets for checking were erected and over 1,200 mobile patrolling vehicles and 2,074 motorcycles were in the service of the force on New Year’s eve. The failure then lies in deployment as the majority of patrolling remains concentrated in areas where there is a large footfall of revelers. The police appear to give the crime-prone North West parts of the city a wide berth. Can tougher laws or stricter implementation solve the problem that also calls for a social transformation of India’s national capital? Not only policing begs change but also the attitude of ordinary citizens who think they can escape the law by making a last desperate attempt to flee.
