Travel tips for visiting Thiruvanthapuram, Kerala

We were planning to go to Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala this month. I need some tips and guidelines to travel safely in that city. We were planning to go to Ananthapadnabha Swamy temple, Kanyakumari and then Madhurai. I would like to know - 1. Are Ola and Uber cab services available there? 2. Suggest some good travel packages with details of what is included and the approximate cost for those packages. 3. Any general tips while travelling in and around Thiruvanthapuram. 1. Thiruvananthapuram is having very good hotels at affordable prices. They are very safe. 2. Anatapadmanbha Swamy is very attractive and one should visit that temple without fail. This is in the center of the city. Taxis are available to go there. This temple is very near to many of the good hotels and you can even walk down to the temple. There is a dress code for the people to visit this temple. The required clothes will be available on rent and you can get them and after darshan, you can return it. I have visited this temple two times and it will take a maximum of 3 hours to have a good darshan. 3. Kanyakumari is about 95 km from Trivandrum by road. There are trains from this place to Kanyakumari. The distance by train is about 87 Km. There are buses also. You will get taxis also. My personal opinion is to hire good Innova and go by road. You can visit all the places comfortably. I have gone to this place with my family on the road from Trivandrum. The road is good. Please visit the Vivekananda rock memori...

Mathur Aqueduct (Kanyakumari)

Mathur Aqueduct commonly known as thotti paalam is an architectural marvel from 1960s.built by late CM kamaraj to transfer water from one hill to another. It's 110 feet tall Bridge which has two lanes, one for walking and one for passing water from one end to another.. Almost 1 km long. The scenery from above the bridge is definitely not to be missed. Greenery and mountains and a river flowing right under this bridge. Things to do - take pics on the bridge, bath at the river below as it's not so deep, try the organic fruits sold by sellers near bridge - fresh pineapple, tender coconut, jackfruit and the indigenous ayni chakka. Best time to visit - mornings or evenings. As other times will be hot and umbrellas are much needed. Avoid summers. Located about 14 km from padmanabhapuram palace. This place must be planned along with thirparappu falls and padmanabhapuram palace on a single day... Take care of your kids when you are walking here, because of the height Public transport is not advisable and not so frequent. It's better to hire a one day taxi to see all three places. Good parking area is available. The entrance fee is 5rs person.

Adi Keshava Perumal Temple (Kanyakumari)

This temple is located at a distance of around 45 - 50 KMS from Kanyakumari. The temple complex is very large and has many rare sculpture. Adhikesava perumal is the name of the main Deity here. The temple was built in Dravidian style architecture.. The presiding deity is - Adhikesava perumal (reclining posture ) Ambal - Goddess Maragathavalli Nachiar. A shivalingam is also seen inside the main sannithi near Lord Vishnu. Now kumbhabishekam works are going on and we can see Poojas done to the Balalayam perumal. Yet, you can have Darshan of the moolavar from a distance.. This is an ancient temple. Might have been in poor maintenance in the past, but when i saw it, it was being restored. I promptly donated some money for restoration work too. This is a fairly large temple, about 4 acres and surrounded by a river, hence the name of the place. The lord is in reclining position, i believe that restoration is in progress and hence the Utsava murti is the one being worshiped. Beautiful form to view. You can see his charming face in full view. Pity that the doors in between block the full view of the lord. Other deities have smaller temples inside, some beautiful murals have been vandalized. I am amazed and shocked at the uncivility of these folks who damage the abode of the lord. Please do visit Narasimha temple nearby. It is a practice to see him after the Darshan of Adikeshavan. Things to Note: a) The Padmanabha Swamy temple in Tiruvananthapuram is a replica of this temple. The L...
