Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who worked with Ram Gopal Varma for many years, recently spoke about the late 1990s and early 2000s when RGV and Kashyap were deep into making gangster movies in Hindi cinema. In a recent chat with Tanmay Bhat on his YouTube channel, He then recalled an anecdote where he was taken to a strange party by a gangster’s henchman. “Two people came to my house and said you will have to go with us. I asked them who they were and they just said I will have to go with them,” he said. Anurag said that this happened soon after the release of Satya. Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap admitted that he spent the majority of the last few years working on others’ films, as he tried to avoid repeating himself creatively or chasing past success. But Kashyap will return to familiar territory with the upcoming noir-thriller In an interview with Variety, Kashyap addressed how tumultuous the last few years have been for him, as he spoke about returning to his roots with Kennedy, which he described as ‘a character-driven dark nightmare thriller about redemption’. The film stars Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone.

Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy is making its run to international film festivals after it debuted at Cannes this year. The Zee Studios and Good Bad Films’ upcoming police noir Kennedy is based on an insomniac cop who dwells in different circumstances while looking for redemption. The film will now test the waters at the Sydney Film Festival. Anurag Kashyap will be travelling to the film festival with his film after being named Head of the Jury at Sydney Film Festival. As head of the Jury at the Sydney Film Festival, Anurag Kashyap will be joined by actor Mia Wasikowska (Australia), film curator and journalist Dorothee Wenne (Germany), writer and director Larissa Behrendt (Australia) and filmmaker Visakesa Chandrasekaram (Australia/Sri Lanka). Kennedy was presented at Cannes 2023 At Cannes 2023, Kennedy became the first Indian film to be screened at the midnight section at The Grand Lumiere Theatre. Prior to this, Anurag Kashyap presented films like Raman Raghav 2.0, Ugly, Bombay Talkies, and the two-part gangster drama Gangs of Wasseypur. The film has been produced by Zee Studios and Ranjan Singh & Kabir Ahuja of Good Bad Films. The music of the film is composed by Ashish Narula with Aamir Aziz & Boyblanck. "My grandfather (Shafiq Khan in real life, Sardar Khan in the film, played by Manoj Bajpayee) was killed by an assassin hired by my grand-uncle, Hanif. My father killed the assassin. That's why he is in jail. None of this is in the film," continues Iqbal. He says the sequence in Part Iof the film, where Sardar Khan issues an open threat to Ramadhir Singh (loosely based on the real-life Suraj Deo Singh, played by Timangshu Dhulia), demanding the return of an abducted woman, is also fictitious. So, he says, are the Montague-Capulet type romances, or names like Perpendicular and Definite. "You are likely to find Prince and Goodwin Khans here instead," he says. Elsewhere, a Wasseypur resident who wishes to remain anonymous says, "It was as it had happened." He was referring to how Part I of the film had ended, with the death of Sardar Khan.
