If you can believe it, we’re now coming up on 10 years of tire-smoking, rally-jumping, super-slow-motion Ken Block Gymkhana videos. Gymkhana Practice, unofficially the first video, hit YouTube in November 2008. It garnered 15 million views, which seemed like a lot at the time. But, YouTube was still young -- his next eight in the series were watched more than 330 million times. So, with the No. 8: Gymkhana SIX -- The ultimate grid course Release Date: Nov. 11, 2013 Car: 2013 Ford Fiesta ST RX43 Views: 36.7 million The location is what drops this video into the lower end of the collection. Visually, there isn't much background and the danger factor is on the low end. This one was sponsored by the "Need for Speed" video game, hence the No. 7: Gymkhana FOUR -- The Hollywood Megamercial Release Date: Aug. 16, 2011 Car: 2011 Ford Fiesta rally car Views: 29 million Gymkhana Four takes a turn for the over-produced, hence its setting at Universal Studios California and the '90s action movie-like graphics. There are also about seven title cards before we actually get to the video. Gymkhana Four has some decent close-up wheel shots, but the rest of the cameras weren't even hidden. The gorilla-on-a-Segway gag is OK, but then the Segway rockets off into space. The car blowing though a fake brick wall is pretty cool, though. It also ends with a weird Bollywood dance number, so there's that. No. 6: Gymkhana THREE -- Autodromo in Linas, France Release Date: Sept. 14, 2010 Car: Ford Fiest...

Hoonigan relaunches Ken Block Gymkhana Grid – DirtFish

If there was one thing the late Ken Block made famous, it was gymkhana. No, not the equestrian event. The art of sliding a car around some obstacles in the fastest and coolest way possible. Whether it was through his YouTube videos or the competitive Gymkhana Grid events that he co-founded, Ken Block was the undisputed master. Gymkhana Grid hasn’t run since 2019, but this fall it is returning with a series of events in the US in a bid to remember Ken and what he did best. Announced via a 24/7 livestream hosted on the Hoonigan YouTube channel as part of what it is calling 4/3 day – a reference to Ken’s race number of #43 – Hoonigan lifers Brian Scotto and Ron Zaras are among those planning to take part in the event. A petition has also been launched to officially make April 3 ‘4 3 Day’ so that Ken’s legacy can be remembered in a “meaningful and lasting way”. The petition can be viewed and signed More details of the relaunched Gymkhana Grid are expected to be released soon.

Gymkhana 10 With Ken Block: Full Video

After a year of waiting and an This time around, Gymkhana isn't just focused on one car and one location. The tenth iteration of the video series is a mash-up of Block's greatest hits, bringing in five of his tire-slaying machines and traveling to five different locations around the world. In addition to the newly-introduced 914-horsepower Ecoboost V6-powered no tires at all, using Fifteen52 wheels to put on a massive spark show. We hope the film team had a fire extinguisher or two on hand, because it looks incredibly sketchy. As with every other Gymkhana video, there are a ton of impossibly well-executed drifts, close calls, and weird stunts, all caught on video for us to enjoy. The best part? Block doesn't pull off Gymkhana Ten alone. He's joined by a host of notable stars, including 16-year old rally car driver Oliver Solberg, daredevil legend Update 1/11/2019: Hoonigan has released five "extended cut" versions of each Gymkhana 10 segment (one from each location featured in the original video). They feature never-before-seen footage of action that didn't make the final cut. Check them out right here.

Gymkhana Grid Is Coming Back in 2023

All the way back in 2010, automotive legend Ken Block launched an action sport of his own with the introduction of Gymkhana Grid. The series has not run since 2019, and has not run in the U.S. since it was a part of the X-Games in 2013, but that will change when it returns this fall. As Hoonigan announced Monday during its Past events featured an all-wheel-drive class and a rear-wheel-drive class. Both competed in something resembling the typical competitive gymkhana format: an autocross-style course that required both quick cornering through traditional obstacles and maneuvers that required the stylish driving Block made so famous. In those events, the all-wheel-drive class would typically be made up of high-horsepower compact cars you might see in a rallycross event. The rear-wheel drive class was more open, having been won in the past by a Mazda MX-5, a Corvette, an E30-generation BMW 3-Series, and a wide variety of Nissan Silvias. Past all-wheel-drive class winners included rallycross standouts like Tanner Foust, Petter Solberg, and Block himself, while past winners in the rear-wheel-drive class included drifting legends Dai Yoshihara and Daigo Saito. Participants have not been named for the 2023 events yet, but Hoonigan's Brian Scotto and Ron Zaras are reportedly among those planning to compete.

4 minutes 27 seconds 2008, and the one that started it all. Block takes his ‘06 Subaru Impreza WRX STI and its 530bhp to an airfield, guns it down the straight and then, without warning, flicks it into a massive drift to change the world of car videos forever. And it seems so innocent when you look back, as many of you still are: it's clocked over 16 million views. Gymkhana Two "The Infomercial" 7 minutes 32 seconds Paraded as an advert showcasing DC Sports merchandise (Block’s clothing line) and filmed at the Port of Los Angeles, Gymkhana Two debuted a year after the first one, and was altogether a more polished affair. It also ushered in a new iteration of the Scooby: this was a 2009 WRX STI packing 566bhp and 611lb ft of torque, prepared by the same chaps who did the first one (Crawford Performance). It ends in an explosion, with lots of fire and lots of drifting. Over 52 million views and counting. There’s a mini-Gymkhana vid that aired a few months later too - Gymkhana 2.1 - featuring Block and longtime friend Rob Dyrdek; Block’s in the Scooby, Dyrdek’s in a mini-Scooby. There is Benny Hill music and 80s synth, along with a touch of tyre smoke. Just a smidgen, mind. 7 minutes 42 seconds By this point, Ken Block had already become a household name. We're in 2010, and Block swapped his Scooby for something a little smaller, but equally averse to prolonging tyre life: an '11 Ford Fiesta prepared by Olsbergs MSE. Don't let the size fool you - it's still packing 650bhp and...

Gymkhana 11: Travis Pastrana Gets the Biggest Air Over His Hometown

Scotto believes that this could be the start of a back-and-forth challenge between Block and Pastrana. First off, that's his job as a director to pull off, but secondly, if it took a new star driver to shake things up a bit, I'm here for more of it. I'd love to see what other stunt nuts would do with an entire Gymkhana film as well. Send it! All of it. Isn't that the real meaning of Gymkhana anyway?
