NIRF Index: Lucknow’s KGMU improves overall score

King George?s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow has been ranked 12th among the top medical institutions in India by the National Institutions Ranking Framework. The university's score improved to 63.93 points for 2023, from 61.68 in 2022 and 64.67 in 2021. In the universities category, KGMU stood at the 45th position with 50.63 points. The dental wing of KGMU did not apply for NIRF ranking this year. LUCKNOW City-based King George’s Medical University (KGMU) has been placed at the 12th spot among the top medical institutions in the country by the National Institutions Ranking Framework (NIRF). In 2022, KGMU was given the 11th spot while in 2021, the premier medical facility ranked ninth in the country. KGMU has been given a score of 63.93 points for the 2023 ranking. 'Without donor blood' in observance of World Blood Donor Day at KGMU and RMLIMS

LUCKNOW: Blood units will be provided without a donor at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) and the King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow in observance of World Blood Donor Day. At RMLIMS, without donor blood will be available on Wednesday and Friday. The attendants of patients admitted in government hospitals will be able to take donor blood from the institute on the advice of the doctor.At the KGMU, blood of B and O positive groups will be available without a donor from Wednesday to June 28. Blood bank in-charge RMLIMS, Dr VK Sharma said that though without donor blood is being provided to pregnant women in the institute, on blood donors day all the needy patients are being provided without donor blood as per the availability. Head of the blood and transfusion medicine department KGMU, Prof Tulika Chandra, said that the patients admitted in the hospital will be provided blood on priority basis. They will have to bring the doctor's prescription and blood sample. After that, they will be able to get blood from the blood bank. In addition, MBBS students at the KGMU have formed a group called the Georgians to provide blood without a donor to patients in need. The Georgians paste leaflets in the departments at the KGMU with their mobile numbers. The attendants of patients can call them for help. The Georgians provide 500 to 700 units of blood every year.

The accomplices of the suspect were present inside the court premises to support the shooter in case he had missed his target. The police said that the shooter had opened fire from behind when Sanjeev Jeeva was entering the court premises. A police officer and a two-year-old girl were injured in the incident and were rushed to hospital. Sanjeev Jeeva was an accused in the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai and then state minister Brahm Dutta Dwivedi, as well as 24 other cases, including that of murder, fraud, and criminal conspiracy. Maheshwari Jeeva: Bullet Punctured Infant’s Lung: Kgmu Docs

Lucknow: An 18-month-old girl was critically injured when a stray bullet fired by the alleged killer who gunned down gangster Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva, hit her. As per doctors attending to her, the bullet hit the thorax area of the infant’s body and punctured one of her lungs. She was rushed to the Balrampur hospital from where doctors referred her to the trauma centre of KGMU. Chief medical superintendent (CMS) of the Trauma Centre, Prof Sandeep Tiwari, said that doctors performed an emergency surgery and took out the bullet. The baby is in the intensive care unit. We are monitoring her condition closely and hope that the girl will survive," he said. Chief Medical Superintendent of Balrampur Hospital, Dr GP Gupta, said, "She was brought to the hospital in a critical condition. The bullet has punctured one of her lungs. After providing primary treatment, we referred her to the trauma centre,” he said. KGMU officials also said that two constables who also suffered injuries during the shootout were stable and recovering in the emergency surgery unit.
