Located at a distance of around 65 kms from Sikar in Rajasthan, in the tiny village of Khatoo, Khatushyam Mandir is a revered Hindu temple. The temple is visited by more than 85 lac devotees each year who come here to revel in the beauty of the temple and to seek blessings from the Lord himself. The temple was built 1027 AD by Roopsingh Chauhan and his wife Niramala Kanwar. There are a lot of myths and legends attached to the temple and the pilgrims have a firm belief that all your wishes are granted if you visit here. Among the many legends attached to the origin of Khatushyam Mandir, the most prominent one goes to say that when the Mahabharata battle was over, Barbarika’s head was buried in the nearby village of Khatoo. For many years after, the burial site remained unidentified. Later, after the Kaliyuga period had begun, one day a cow neared the site and suddenly milk started flowing out of her udder. The villagers were surprised and they dug up the ground near the incident. And then they found the head of Barbarika buried inside. So they handed over this head to a Brahmin who kept it and worshipped it for long. At the time of the incident, Roopsingh Chauhan was the king of Khatoo (the village). One night he had a dream where he was motivated to build a temple and felicitate the head, which he did.
