Addressing a gathering at the formal launch of the scheme at Jabalpur’s Garrison Ground, the Chief Minister said he may have started with ₹1,000 [per month to each of the 1.25 crore identified beneficiaries], but will keep revising the amount upwards in a phased manner “after arranging sufficient funds”. “I do what I say. I had said that I would give ₹1,000, am I giving it today or not? So now when I have said that gradually I will increase it to ₹3,000, then I will give ₹3,000 to my sisters,” he said. “This will change your lives, the future of your children. Whether it is buying their clothes or medicines or celebrating festivals, my sisters won’t face any problems,” he said. Jabalpur, Jun 10 (PTI) Months ahead of Assembly elections, the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday rolled out the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’ under which Rs 1,000 is being digitally transferred to the accounts of 1.25 crore women in the state. The government also promised to hike this dole to Rs 3,000 gradually, a move is seen as a counter to Congress which had promised a financial aid of Rs 1,500 each to women, with certain riders, and a cooking gas cylinder at Rs 500 to households if it comes to power after the Assembly elections, due later this year. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan pressed a button at an event at the Garrison Ground here to digitally transfer the first dole of the scheme under which beneficiaries will receive Rs 1,000 a month. He said the scheme will empower women socially and economically. The beneficiaries can withdraw the money from Sunday onwards, said officials. “This amount will be gradually increased in the future as per financial arrangements to be done from time to time from the present Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000 gradually. As part of the initiative, women from lower- and middle-class homes will get a monthly transfer of Rs 1,000 into their accounts.
