The Narmada Aarti at Statue of Unity will take place daily in the evening at the newly built Narmada Ghat near Shoolpaneshwar Mahadev mandir from 31st October onwards. The Narmada Aarti here is likely to be performed for the first time at the hands of PM Narendrabhai Modi on 31st October. The Narmada Aarti will be performed daily at the Narmada Ghat with music similar to the Ganga Aarti at Haridwar. A huge Narmada Ghat is built near Shoolpaneshwar Mahadev mandir at a cost of Rs 11 crores. The 50 meter-long and 35 meter-wide Ghat has a seating capacity for 6 thousand devotees. It also has a platform for the pujaris. It is likely to attract tourists, given that Narmada is considered the holiest of three important rivers of Hindu mythology. The ritualistic Narmada Aarti on the lines of the magnificent Ganga aarti performed at the ‘Dashashwamedh Ghat’ in Varanasi. Now it will be an internal part of the evening events of Narmada. The aarti, along with the ghats, will include the tribal musicians. ‘Jai Narmada Maiya aarti ‘in Hindi and the Narmada’ shatakam’ is in Sanskrit, the tribal singers have been trained to learn the verses perfectly. The rehearsals for the musical aarti are being done at present. The pujaris will perform Narmada Aarti with 108 lamps. The local tribal people will play various musical instruments. A huge exhibition hall covering an area of 4,647 square metres has been set up in the pedestal of the Statue of Unity. The hall showcases the life of Sardar Patel, his contributions to the Freedom Movement against British rule and his role in the merger of princely states. The Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary, the life and culture of the tribal people of Gujarat and the Sardar Sarovar Dam are also displayed through an Audio-Visual show. A nation-wide campaign was initiated to collect soil from farmers towards this tribute to the extraordinary leader of India, who was born in a farmer’s family and had led several successful campaigns for farmers’ rights during India’s freedom struggle.
