By Indrajit Kundu: West Bengal on Sunday witnessed a massive surge in its daily tally of new Covid-19 cases as the state recorded 24,287 fresh Corronavirus cases in 24 hours. Kolkata accounted for 8,712 of the new Covid-19 cases reported in the state, according to a health bulletin issued by the state government. Kolkata was followed by North 24 paraganas, Howrah, Hooghly, South Parganas, and Paschim Bardhaman in terms of new Covid-19 cases detected in the past 24 hours, as per the state government's health bulletin. By Anupam Mishra: West Bengal is witnessing a sharp uptick in Covid-19 cases after the Durga Puja festivities concluded. In the last 24 hours, the state recorded 976 new infections and 15 fatalities. This is a significant rise from Tuesday, when 806 fresh cases were reported. State capital Kolkata alone reported 272 Covid-19 cases in a single day. North 24 Parganas had the second highest number of infections at 159. A total of 43,322 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours. The positivity rate is at 2.25. The state health department, meanwhile, has created multiple micro-containment zones to check the transmission of the virus. There are currently 129 containment zones in West Bengal, with the maximum of 43 in North 24 Parganas district.

West Bengal reports 867 fresh Covid

By Press Trust of India: West Bengal's Covid-19 tally surged to 15,82,813 as 867 more people tested positive for the infection on Wednesday, 141 more than the previous day, a health department bulletin said. The new cases were reported from Kolkata (244) and North 24 Parganas district (129), it said. The state had reported 726 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, 690 on Monday and 624 on Sunday respectively.
