BJP's Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi is leading with a margin of 19,552 votesfrom the Rampur Lok Sabha seat, as per the latest trends.The counting of Lodhi is a former SP MLC who had recently joined the saffron party, while the SP has nominated Asim Raja, a close associate of Azam Khan. The Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is not contesting from Rampur. Azamgarh BJP’s Dinesh Lal Yadav 'Nirahua' is leading from the Azamgarh seat. The seat saw a triangular contest among the BJP’s Nirahua, a Bhojpuri actor-singer, SP's Dharmendra Yadav and BSP's Shah Alam, also known as Guddu Jamali. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate, Shah Alam a.k.a. Guddu Jamali, had already amassed over 1 lakh votes, which has impacted Samajwadi Party's Dharmendra Yadav. Jamali is trailing at third position. The bypoll in Azamgarh constituency was necessitated after the seat fell vacant following the resignation of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. Rampur and Azamgarh have been SP strongholds. The two constituencies voted on June 23, with Azamgarh recording a turnout of 49.43 per cent and Rampur 41.39 per cent. Over 35 lakh people were eligible to vote in the bypolls to decide the fate of 19 candidates.

Among the Lok Sabha seats that went to polls are Rampur and Azamgarh constituencies in Uttar Pradesh and Sangrur in Punjab. Assembly bypolls were held in Rajinder Nagar in Delhi, Mandar in Jharkhand, Atmakuru in Andhra Pradesh, and in four constituencies - Agartala, Jubarajnagar, Surma and Town Bardowali - in Tripura. In Azamgarh, the BJP has fielded Dinesh Lal Yadav 'Nirhua' against SP's Dharmendra Yadav and BSP's Shah Alam. The Rampur seat has witnessed a bipolar contest between BJP's Ghanshyam Singh Lodhi and Asim Raja of the Samajwadi Party. In 2019, the SP had won this seat by over 1 lakh votes. The SP had also won Azamgarh seat by over 2.5 lakh votes. In Delhi, bypoll was necessitated after sitting MLA Raghav Chadha was elected to Rajya Sabha. Here, the AAP has fielded Durgesh Pathak against BJP's Rajesh Bhatia. In Jharkhand, sitting MLA Bandhu Tirkey was disqualified following his conviction in a corruption case. This forced bypolls for the Mandar seat. Here, the contest is between Congress-JMM candidate Shilpi Neha Tirkey and Gangotri Kujur of the BJP.

Over 35 lakh people are eligible to vote in the bypolls and will be deciding the fate of 19 candidates. Of the total votes cast, 26.39 per cent votes were cast in Rampur, and 29.4 per cent in Azamgarh, the election office said. According to the Chief Electoral Officer, the polling will continue till 6 pm today.
