Lorrie Morgan Songs

Having made her Grand Ole Opry debut when she was only 13 years old, Lorrie Morgan virtually owned the charts in her heyday as a teenager. While she rarely wrote the songs she cut, she made them her own with her salty swagger and melancholic voice that hit you like a punch to the gut. Regardless of their place in the history books and on the charts, here are the Top 15 Lorrie Morgan songs, according to Holler. The song that most country fans think of when you say “Lorrie Morgan". It's with good reason. She spends the first part of the tune telling her ex that she is fine after their break-up, before eventually admitting that she’s not so fine on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Once Sunday comes around, though, everything’s alright. A loveless marriage is probably one of the saddest country themes a songwriter can write about. This one, recorded as a duet with Sammy Kershaw, hits the hardest. The bittersweet irony is that the two country stars recorded the song a full two years before they ended up marrying each other, before divorcing six years later. She’s not wrong. There is no such thing as lonely whiskey, because someone always wants a sip. There have been barroom ballads before, especially ones about finding misery at the bottom of a bottle, but this song - from Morgan’s 2016 passion project Letting Go…Slow - was one of the first to personify the whiskey. Strong women need to stay strong. Even when they’ve let a man walk in, guilty as ...

Finding Lorrie: Are All Turnpike Troubadours Songs Tied Together?

If you’re looking for something to ponder to help get you through the prolonged hiatus Oklahoma’s Turnpike Troubadours are currently in the midst of, an industrious YouTuber has just posed an interesting theory. Any Turnpike Troubadours fan worth their salt already knows all about the lineage of the girl named Lorrie through multiple Turnpike Troubadours songs. Appearing directly in “Good Lord Lorrie,”“The Mercury,” and “The Housefire,” Lorrie has become almost like a mascot and a muse for the band, tying the songs and albums together as a recurring character, and becoming synonymous with Turnpike itself. Saying “Good Lord Lorrie” has become a colloquialism and catchphrase for many fans of Texas and Red Dirt music. Lorrie is not the only recurring character in the Turnpike Troubadours universe though. There’s also Jimmy, who appears directly in the songs “The Funeral” and “The Mercury.” There’s “Doreen,” who has her own song, and may appear in others. And appearing in multiple Turnpike Troubadours songs isn’t just relegated to people. There’s also the Browning Auto 5 shotgun that appears in both “The Bird Hunters” and “The Housefire.” This is all the genius of Turnpike’s frontman and primary songwriter Evan Felker, who has proven over the years to be one of our generation’s most inspired, inspiring, and industrious songwriters. Saving Country Music tried to map out the lineage of Lorrie a few years ago, concluding, “Is Lorrie the subject of other Turnpike songs? Is she bas...

Top 10 Lorrie Morgan Songs

10 "Trainwreck of Emotion" From 'Leave the Light On' (1989) Somewhere between Morgan’s first single (1979’s “I’m Completely Satisfied With You”) and her first No. 1 hit (1990’s “Five Minutes”) came “Trainwreck of Emotion.” Morgan's 1988 single holds significance, too: It was her first single from her debut studio album, and her first Top 20 hit. "Trainwreck of Emotion" kickedMorgan's career into gear. 9 "Don't Worry Baby" From the Beach Boys' 'Stars and Stripes Vol. 1' (1996) Does the title “Don’t Worry Baby” sound more like a Beach Boys song than a Lorrie Morgan song? There’s a reason for that: “Don’t Worry Baby” is a duet with the iconic rock group. Beach Boys fans were already familiar with the track, which was originallyreleased in 1964 as the B-side to the classic hit “I Get Around,” but in 1996, the band re-recorded the song with country flair for their Stars and Stripes Vol. 1 album. Morgan pulls off the vocals effortlessly -- a truly great performance. 8 "Two People in Love" Single (1979) “Two People in Love” was Morgan's introduction to the world: The 1979 release was her very first single. Alove song written as a relationship falls apart, "Two People in Love" opens optimistically with the line, “ Look at you, trying to make me laugh again” -- but as the chorus reminds the listener, “Two people in love don’t act this way.”In 2006, Morgan honored this career-establishing song by re-releasing it on a short, 8-song album called -- you guessed it -- Two People in Love...

Lyrics for Laurie (Strange Things Happen) by Dickey Lee

Last night at the dance I met Laurie So lovely and warm, an angel of a girl Last night I fell in love with Laurie Strange things happen in this world As I walked her home She said it was her birthday I pulled her close and said "Will I see you anymore?" Then suddenly she asked for my sweater And said that she was very, very cold I kissed her goodnight At her door and started home Then thought about my sweater And went right back instead I knocked at her door and a man appeared I told why I'd come, then he said "You're wrong, son You weren't with my daughter How can you be so cruel To come to me this way? My Laurie left this world on her birthday She died a year ago today" A strange force drew me to the graveyard I stood in the dark I saw the shadows wave And then I looked and saw my sweater Lyin' there upon her grave Strange things happen in this world Writer/s: Milton Addington Publisher: Universal Music Publishing Group Lyrics licensed and provided by send your comment Comments: 6 • James from Diamond Bar Ca What a Tune - Dickey Lee sings it perfectly and many Taxi Drivers report picking up Ghosts - Number 14 because some of the big stations wouldn't play it - Too topical and controversial ?
