The state capital recorded the lowest minimum temperature of the season on Friday as mercury plunged to 5.9 degrees Celsius. The day temperature, however, went up to 14.8 degrees Celsius, which was 6.5 degrees below normal. Meanwhile, the meteorological department has predicted that cold conditions during the day will prevail on Saturday too. Dense to very dense fog with cold day conditions are very likely over the area. The maximum and minimum temperature would be around 16 and 6 degrees Celsius respectively,” said Mohd Danish, incharge of Lucknow Met department. The forecast for the state is that weather will most likely be dry. The met department has issued warning of dense to very dense fog very likely at a few places. Cold to severe cold day conditions are very likely at a few places over the state. Cold wave conditions are very likely at isolated places over east Uttar Pradesh. Kanpur city and Faizabad were coldest in the city with minimum temperature of 3.2 degrees Celsius. Sultanpur recorded 3.9 degrees Celsius, Hamirpur 4.2, Moradabad and Etawah 4.6, Bulandshahr and Basti 5, Barabanki and Muzaffarnagar 5.2, Meerut and Shahjahanpur 6.1 and Aligarh recorded 6.6 degrees Celsius.

Hot, dry winds coming from Rajasthan continue to sweep Uttar Pradesh with sweltering weather conditions noted on June 13.Mercury levels, both during the day and night, have remained 3-5 degrees above normal in most parts of the state in the past 24 hours. Everyone is waiting eagerly for rain in UP, however, no relief is expected till June 17, Saturday, stated MET. Thereafter, cyclone Biparjoy might change climatic conditions with a slight drop in temperature by 2 to 3°C. At 45.9°C Jhansiremained hottest in Uttar Pradesh followed by Prayagraj at 45.4°C and Hamirpur, Agra and Rae Bareliat 44.5°C each. In Kanpur, the observatory at Indian Airforce Station recorded 44.6°C max temp, while the main city reported 43°C. Similarly, in Varanasi, the airport recorded 44.5°C and the city 43.6°C. Other districts that recorded high temperatures included Basti at 44 °C, Banda at 43.8°C, Sultanpurat 43.6°C and Ayodhya at 43.5°C. In Lucknow, max. temp. touched 42.5°C, 3.2 units above normal, and min temp at 30.5°C, 3.3 notches above normal. From Lucknow to Prayagraj, the next 24 hours are deemed to be fiercely hot by MET.
