MUMBAI: With a floor test looming, the Shiv Sena changed track from its offensive to reclaim the party to an emotional appeal by chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, asking the rebels to return and talk. The appeal came a few hours after rebel leader Eknath Shinde said his group would soon be returning to Mumbai. In his statement, CM Thackeray said, "You have been stuck in Guwahati for the last few days. In your mind you are still Shiv Sainiks and many of you are in touch with us." In a reference to the possibility of the rebels joining the BJP, Thackeray said, "The respect given to you by the Shiv Sena, you will not find anywhere else." He said as head of the family, he was worried about them and urged them to come and talk. Meanwhile, Thackeray chaired a cabinet meeting in Mantralaya on Tuesday, the first after nine rebel ministers were divested of their portfolios. However, the appeal cut no ice with Shinde. "On one hand, your son and spokesperson call Balasaheb's Shiv Sainiks pigs, buffaloes, filth, dogs and corpses. Friction arose between the ‘Mahayuti’ (translated ‘grand alliance’) partners after a newspaper advertisement placed by the Shinde-led Sena cited a survey which claimed Mr. Shinde was more preferred as the State’s CM than Mr. Fadnavis. Leaders from the Shinde camp scrambled to downplay any differences between their party and the BJP over the survey while the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) pooh-poohed the government’s survey, saying it was “laughable” that the Shinde camp had deployed an agency to conduct a survey obviously favourable to them. “There are no differences between the BJP and the Shiv Sena. Mr. Fadnavis has cancelled his visit owing to medical reasons. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis denied reports about the alleged lathicharge on ‘warkari’ pilgrims by the police in Pune’s Alandi town. Warkaris are devotees of Lord Vitthal, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Fadnavis said a minor fight broke out between the devotees and the police.  He was quoted as saying by PTI: “There was no lathicharge on the warkari community”. The incident occurred when devotees were trying to enter the Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Samadhi Mandir in Alandi town. "We learned from last year's stampede-like situation at the same place (Alandi) and tried giving a few number of the entry pass to various groups. It was decided to issue 75 passes to each group that participates in the pilgrimage," said Fadnavis. The Maharashtra deputy CM added some 400-500 youths insisted to participate in the pilgrimage and did not follow the rules about restricted allotment of passes. He added they broke barricades and some police personnel got injured while trying to stop these youths.  Meanwhile, Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey stated some local youth tried to enter the procession forcefully, leading to an altercation with the police.
