1st batch of security corp to guard BSE,octroi hubs

The Maharashtra State Security Corporation (MSSC) conducted a special induction ceremony for 257 police personnel on Monday. The guards will formally take charge from January 1,with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) as their first set of clients. The ceremony took place on Monday morning at the State Reserve Police grounds with a passing out parade. Of the 257 police personnel,230 will be in-charge of the security at the five octroi hubs of BMC,and the rest will be entrusted with BSE security. The contract will last for 11 months and will be updated with time and need. The two contracts together have earned the corporation Rs 55 lakh,with Rs 18,000 being the minimum charge for the guard at the lowest rank. The next stage of recruiting 1,300 guards and special police officers will also be done by mid-term next near. Financial institutions like RBI and SEBI have shown interest in the next phase of recruitment,according to officials. “We have given 80 security guards and special police personnel to the Mulund octroi hub as it sees a lot of trade. The rest are divided among the other five hubs. Our corporation will be responsible for protecting the consignments,the BMC staff and keeping a watch over the weigh bridge. The BMC has been getting complaints of theft and manhandling in these hubs resulting in losses,” said MSSC vice-chairman and managing director P K Jain. The Maharashtra State Security Corporation (MSSC) has issued letters to authorities of eight airports across the state, instructing them to stop allotting frisking, scanning and anti-hijacking measures related work to the Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) staff appointed at the respective airports. The officials revealed that the MSF staff are not trained to carry out such work, due to which they should instead be assigned ‘watch and ward’ duty at the airport premises. The MSF was set up under the Maharashtra State Security Corporation on the recommendation of the Ram Pradhan Committee that was formed after the 26/11 terror attack. The committee had suggested that an establishment on the lines of the Central Industrial Security Force be formed, following which the MSF was set up. According to officials, the letter was issued in mid-April to the concerned airport operators by the additional director general of MSSC, who was also holding additional charge as managing director of the MSSC then. The Maharashtra State Security Corporation (MSSC), which was set up in 2010 by the state government as a force to guard vital state and central installations in the city, is feeling the pinch of the pandemic-induced economic slowdown. One of its major clients, the Western Railway, has informed that it no longer requires the services of the 432 personnel of the MSSC who guard railway property.
