Complete Works Of Yamunacharya (English) : Yamunacharya : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

This is the complete works of Yamunacharya in English. The most popular Vaishnava sect in Tamil Nadu is the Sri Vaishnava sect, which reveres the devotional poetry of the Alwars, subscribes to a Vedantic philosophy called Visistadvaita, and emphasizes Sharanagati or complete surrender to Vishnu. And the most Sri Vaishnava Acharya is Ramanujacharya, who had his 1000th birthday last year. But Ramanujacharya was by no means the founder of Sri Vaishnavism. Yamunacharya, aka Alavandar, is the earliest Sri Vaishnava Acharya whose philosophical works survive. He lived in the 10th century, he was Ramanujacharya’s guru’s guru, and he was the grandson of Nathamuni, another Sri Vaishnava Acharya who compiled the Alwars’ poems. He spent a large part of his life as a king, before being reformed and returning to his Sri Vaishnava heritage. And he was responsible for bringing Ramanujacharya into the Sri Vaishnava fold. In any case, this is a compilation of all the surviving works of Yamunacharya:

Life and Teachings of Ramanuja

Born in a prominent Telugu Brahmin family in the twelfth century, Ramanuja was one of the most influential philosophers and theologians of mediaeval India. Well-versed in both Vedanta and Yoga, he is recognised for his work on the premise that there is one absolute reality that anyone can know through the practice of Yoga. Influenced by Vedanta, Ramanuja’s philosophy emphasised that the true nature of God can only be understood through self-realisation. Though his ideas were controversial at the time, they influenced many philosophers and theologians who followed him. Who Was Ramanuja? Ramanuja was a Hindu philosopher who lived in southern India during the 11th century. He is considered one of the most influential philosophers in the history of Hinduism. He is best known for his philosophy of Vishishtadvaita, which holds that the Ultimate Reality is one infinite essence that manifests in three different ways. Ramanuja’s teachings had a profound impact on the development of Hinduism, and followers of the faith widely revere him. Ramanuja’s Childhood And Education Ramanuja was born in 1017 in India. Though he was born into a family of Brahmins (the priestly caste), Shri Ramanujar himself did not grow up to become a priest. He didn’t begin his formal education until he was 12 years old. It wasn’t in a religious institution but rather in a secular school where he studied grammar, rhetoric and music. What Were Ramanuja’s Teachings? Ramanuja was born in southern India in the 11t...

ramanujacharya

The knowledge imparted by Sri Ramanuja Acharya is uncontaminated, free from maligned motivations and supremely correct. The authority of his perfection of bhakti is shining in the form of his magnum opus, srI bhAshya, though all his other works are also equally great. He taught the world how to self surrender unto the Supreme Lord as inscribed in the scriptures. In spite of all his glory, the followers of Sri Ananda Teertha blaspheme such blemish less Sri Ramanuja with harsh words. Their Acharya even present Sri rAmAnuja as an incarnation of a demon named Vatapi. My question is, which work of Madhwacharya or his followers/disciples or anybody from his Guru Parampara says this? I explain my above comment as requested by OP: The question may lead to the source website being construed unintentionally as though it is one-sided, this is bad in general in my understanding - since the link in my comment expresses similar concerns as expressed in this question, I felt it was responsible to just point out to everyone to know: that this website is conscientious and is not unreasonable in its discussions. A work in Kannada 'Harikathamrutasara' by Jagannatha dasa opens with the declaration that 21 duratmas wrote kubhashyas on Brahmasutra and Madhva came to refute them. A commentary on the work lists the 21 and Ramanuja is one. Thus for Madhwas Ramanuja is a duraatma and his Sribhashya is kubhashya. The Sumadhwa vijaya too talks of kubhashya and the author himself lists the 21 in his o...

He was a philosophical as well as a social reformer, displaying a catholicity that was nearly unparalleled in Hindu religious history before him. He revitalised Indian philosophy and popular religion so much that nearly every aspect of Hinduism has been influenced by his work. His life and works show a truly unique personality, combining contemplative insight, logical acumen, catholicity, charismatic energy, and selfless dedication to God. Ramanujacharya (Ramanuja.org/Bhakti List Archives)

From the Bhakti List Archives • July 26, 1995 Here is the artical I just submitted to for publication in a temple magazine of Columbus, Ohio. As suggested by Mr. Krishna Prasad, I am posting it. Any comments welcome. -Sincerely, K. Sreekrishna. ri Ramanujacharya (Longer version) by Koti Sreekrishna, July 27, 1995 The system of Philosophy associated with Ramanuja is known as Vishistadvaita. We should not think that Ramanuja started a new philosophy and he does not claim that either. If Vishishtadvaita can be likened to a lotus plant , then Srutis are its roots, Smrithis are its stems and leaves, Earlier Alvars and Acharyas are its nourishment , and Ramanuja is that bright Sun-light that caused the lotus flower to fully bloom. Ramanuja's supreme effort resulted in a systematic presentation of the Vishishtadvaita. His genius also led to the development of a complete system which synthesizes concept of God with the philosophy of the impersonal absolute. It is a matter of fact that the beauty of Lotus appeals to everyone. The same was true of Ramanuja. Such were his attributes. His scholarship coupled with humility, devotion, kindness, beauty, love, compassion, pragmatism, and adventure left a strong impression on anyone who came to know him. That is exactly how I felt after reading "Life of Sri Ramanuja" by Swami Ramakrishnananda. The followers of Ramanuja are called Sri-Vaishnavas. This term is not exclusive to Iyengars (a major sect among Brahmins of South India). Also among...
