More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers

Plot [ ] High school student Jirō Yakuin is an introvert who would rather keep to himself and play video games than interact with others. He has unrequited feelings for his childhood friend, Shiori Sakurazaka, but the school has implemented a couples training ( 夫婦実習, Fūfu jisshū) program, which has the students develop social skills on interacting with a partner as if they were married, and they are judged heavily on how well they work together through monitoring. Despite hoping to be paired with Shiori, Jiro is instead paired with Akari Watanabe, a As the story proceeds, Jiro and Akari find themselves developing deeper feelings for each other as they "pretend" to get along, causing confusion between themselves as they struggle to sort out which feelings are real and which are not. More than a Married Couple, but Not Lovers.

In a society where high school students are matched with partners for “marriage training,” third-year Jirou Yakuin is assigned to Akari Watanabe, a “gyaru” who couldn’t be more different from him. However, the top ten performers are allowed to switch partners, so the disparate duo play the part of a perfect couple in an attempt to land their respective crushes. krofire Feb 16, 2023 6 Studio Mother’s 2022 High School romance tale is as lame as it is contrived. Let’s start with its highly unbelievable plot premise: the audience is meant to buy into some future world where High School students under-go a marriage “practical” whereby they move in with a classmate of the opposite gender for a few months. They are then scored on their performance by some automatic AI system bolted to the wall of their shared apartment. Enter this nonsense set-up is ultra-gyaru girl Akari Watanabe who is in love with the super-popular Minami Tenjin. Her trouble is that she had been paired in mock-marriage with nerd-boy Jiro Yakuin. In turn Yakuin is in love with his childhood crush Shiori Sakurazaka. From here the story pretty much writes itself. The audience already know what is going to happen from the opening episode and there are no surprises whatsoever. The rest is butchered together from much better anime rom coms such that the whole is less than the sum of its parts. Principal boy Yakuin stumbles ineptly through the story apologising for everything. In the first ten minutes it is clear tha...

Synopsis Third-year high school student Jirou Yakuin is in love with his childhood friend and classmate, Shiori Sakurazaka. Thus, he hopes to be paired with her for the "marriage practical": their school's practice of randomly selecting boy-girl pairs to live as pretend married couples while monitoring and rating them on how close they have gotten. Meanwhile, the lively Akari Watanabe wants to be assigned to her crush, the popular and good-looking Minami Tenjin. Much to their dismay, Jirou and Akari find out that not only have they been paired together, but so have Shiori and Minami! Determined to be with their crushes, Jirou and Akari strive to earn as many points as possible, as the top 10 pairs earn the right to switch their partners—so long as both couples agree. [Written by MAL Rewrite] I am minimally curious about how enjoyable this “marriage practical” thing would be if it actually was a real thing in real life. Things would be spicy in school, the tea would be spilling nonstop, and it would genuinely be really entertaining to watch the gong show unfold. Sadly, in this anime, this “spicy” premise of the marriage practical felt merely like a farce, and didn’t contribute much to the story other than the first few episodes. After that, it turned into a very generic romcom, but so, so frustrating to watch. Time after time I find myself pausing the episode just to facepalm and ... groan at how stupid it all felt. At least the bright colour palette looks good, just don’t ...
