Madhya Pradesh Election 2023: PM Modi To Kick

Ahead of the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the state on June 27, 2023. He will also address public rallies in the poll-bound state. Earlier this month, the faction-ridden BJP in Madhya Pradesh promised to transfer Rs 1,000 to the accounts of women under the ‘Ladli Behna Yojana’. According to the media reports, 1.25 crore women's registrations have been proven to be authentic, and the state is validating the accounts of some additional beneficiaries. Officials have been ordered to gather feedback on the scheme, which would cost the state government Rs 12,500 crore each year. In addition, CM Shivraj Chouhan will also transfer Rs 2,000 into the bank accounts of 80 lakh farmers in the state as a biannual instalment for the CM Kisan Kalyan Yojana, which began last year. This is in addition to the three Rs 2,000 payments provided to farmers each year by the Centre under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Interestingly, PM Modi had referred to the practise of political parties promising free goods or services in advance of polls as "revdi culture." Earlier during the 'griha pravesh' event for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) programme beneficiaries in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district in October 2022, PM Modi had stated that a big segment of society has committed to rid the country of the'revdi' (freebies) mentality. “Thousands of taxpayers write to me and I am happy that a major section of the country is gearing up to free the ...

The launch of the party’s bid for the coming elections was launched in the presence of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and former Chief Minister and MP Congress Committee president Kamal Nath. The event saw the duo conduct a Narmada Pooja at Jabalpur’s Gwarighat along with other Congress leaders of the state. Addressing a rally a short while later, Priyanka came down heavily on the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led BJP government in the state, citing numerous scams under its rule. “BJP has done 225 scams in 220 months of rule. MP Assembly Election 2023: BJP's dilemma in ignoring Priyanka Gandhi

In Jabalpur on 12 June, 2023, the Congress gave a glimpse of its “religious outreach programme” that was discussed, debated and finalised at the Udaipur Chitan Shivir in May 2022. In a nutshell, at Udaipur, Congress leaders from several northern and central Indian states were given the freedom to flaunt their proximity to Hinduism, its symbols, festivals, religious practices in order to counter the BJP narrative of describing the congress as ‘anti-Hindu.’ On Sunday, AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi along with party leader Kamal Nath performed Narmada Pooja at Gwarighat in Jabalpur before addressing a mammoth rally. The state Assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh are due in November-December this year. Priyanka’s presence and usage of overtly religious symbols prompted the rival BJP to dub Priyanka as ‘Chunavi Hindu’. But the BJP would need to do much more than smart slogans and social media onslaught. The Congress is well entrenched in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, both politically and organisationally. In 2018, it had finished five seats ahead of the BJP in a photo-finish election and formed the government for 15 months. The Kamal Nath government fell in March 2020 due to dramatic defection led by Jyotiraditya Scindia and his loyal set of MLAs. Nath, a veteran warhorse, remained steadfast, marshalling resources and sticking to the ground in Madhya Pradesh to emerge as a challenger to incumbent Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Nath has been bold and declared Hanuman bha...

Green party MP Caroline Lucas to stand down at next election

Caroline Lucas has said she feels more optimistic about the environment than when she first joined the Green party in 1986, as she prepares to retire from parliament after 13 years as her party’s only MP. Lucas told the Guardian she felt “gratitude” for her career as the Greens’ first ever MP, adding that she took heart that many of the causes she has long championed were now the policies of Labour and the Conservatives. “The threats to the environment are ever more immediate, and the nature of the climate emergency is unfolding before our eyes,” she said. “However, balancing and outweighing that is that so much has changed [since she joined the party in 1986]. We have got a whole generation of young people who are so committed to the cause. Some businesses are taking an alternative approach. The economics of shifting to a green economy are becoming clearer.” Lucas announced on Thursday morning she would not stand for re-election in Brighton Pavilion, In 2010 She told the Guardian: “I have become ever more motivated to dedicate myself fully to climate and nature, whereas at the moment I have to be the frontbench spokesperson on everything from benefits to Brexit.” Lucas has been the most high-profile member of the During her time at or near the top of the party, she has helped transform it into a serious electoral force. Lucas spearheaded a change in strategy under which members elected leaders for the first time and focused their campaign efforts in parts of the country w...
