About District This tribal household dominated district was formed in the year 1956. The district name is according to the headquarter town Seoni. The name Seoni has the origin from the word Seona (or Gudina of arborea) tree belonging to the Verbanaleal family that was commonly found in this area. The wood of this tree is specially used for making Dholak (drum). The District is situated on a narrow,North-South section of Satpura plateau and lies between latitude 21 36′ & 22 57′ North and longitude 79 19′ and 80 17′ East on National Highway Number-7 ( Banaras- Kanyakumari) which connects the District from north to south.

In a horrifying incident reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni district, an 11-year-old boy strangled his friend to death, smashed his head and slit his throat with a sharp knife, the police said. The scuffle, which the police suspect to be the outcome of an old dispute, broke out between three minor boys after which the youngest of them committed the heinous crime. As per the police, three accused called the boy to a deserted place and murdered him. “The trio, aged 16, 14 and 11 respectively including two brothers, called the 12-year-old boy to a deserted place in Magarkatha village, about 28 km from the Seoni district headquarters, on Sunday," Barghat police station Inspector Prasanna Sharma told PTI. “They planned the crime and called their 12-year-old friend to a secluded place. They caught hold of him and strangled him with a cycle chain. As the boy cried in pain, they smashed his head with a big stone, and slit his throat with a sharp knife which is used for slaughtering goats," Sharma said. Later, all the accused stuffed the body in a plastic bag and dumped it on a pile of pebbles near their house. The crime came to light after a woman spotted the blood-stained bag and informed the police, the agency reported. While the police are shocked that the minor accused have committed the crime like habitual killers, a case has been registered against them. Two Killed After Train Engine Collides With Inspection Trolley In Madhya Pradesh

Seoni: Two railway employees were killed in a collision between a train engine and an inspection trolley in Madhya Pradesh's Seoni district on Monday evening, police said. The accident occurred near Bhoma railway station, some 15 km from the district headquarters, around 4.45 pm, Kanhiwada police station in-charge Monish Singh said. The train engine was coming from Nainpur to Seoni, while an inspection trolley was going to Bhoma from Seoni, when they collided, he said. People travelling in the trolley could not see the engine due to a turn, resulting in the accident, the official said. Of the five persons present in the trolley, three of them managed to jumped off and two were killed in the accident, he said. One person was seriously wounded, while two other sustained minor injuries, the official said.
