The seventh season of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) is upon us as eight from across the state are all set to compete against each other. The tournament this year will be held across four cities in Tamil Nadu. It starts on June 12 and the final will be played on July 12. Narayan Jagadeesan isn’t an overly popular name in the Indian domestic circuit. However, when it comes to talent, he’s among the top players in the country. His prowess was evident from the fact that he started his career for Tamil Nadu with a knock of an unbeaten 123 back in 2016. Batting at No.7 in his maiden first-class match, the right-hander smashed eight fours and a couple of sixes. Since then, he has scored 1174 runs from 23 first-class games at an average of 39.13 with four centuries and as many half-centuries. In his List A career, the 25-year-old has notched 1,007 runs with two tons and five fifties. In 2018, his career took a step ahead after the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings, the three-time Indian Premier League champions, picked him up in the auction. Narayan Jagadeesan Records List in List A Format Narayan Jagadeesan has the most number of consecutive tons in a single season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, having surpassed players like Virat Kohli, Prithvi Shaw, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal, who have scored four centuries each. Kohli had struck four tons in the 2008/09 season while Gaikwad did it in 2021/22 and Shaw and Padikkal both in 2020/21. The 25-year-old Narayan Jagadeesan is a wicketkeeper and a top-order batsman from Tamil Nadu who has occasionally batted in the middle order and played handy cameos. A strike rate of 125.35 and a batting average of 35.10 in T20 cricket is something very few can boast of and the Coimbatore-born lad is one of them. He might come into the (CSK) XI replacing one of the Indian batters at the top. Career Domestic career Jagadeesan has played all of his domestic cricket for Tamil Nadu age group teams, Tamil Nadu senior team, the Dindigul Dragons in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) and the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He made his First Class debut for Tamil Nadu as a 20-year-old in the Ranji Trophy and impressed with an unbeaten century. Since then, Jagadeesan has scored 1174 runs in 23 matches at an average of just under 40 with four centuries and four half-centuries under his belt. He then stepped into List A cricket four months later during a Vijay Hazare Trophy encounter against Uttar Pradesh. Although he scored just 10 runs on debut, he has now scored over 1000 runs in 28 games at an average of 35.96.
