The stadium, which used to host international cricket and football matches, has been lying unused since its infrastructure development, initiated for the South Asian Games in 2016 and again for Fifa under-17 World Cup football in 2017, was twice abandoned midway. “Cricket should be restored in the historic stadium like the way it used to be in the past. Besides, two football turfs should be developed with the cricket pitch in between like in the past so that both sports can grow together in the historic infrastructure,” Saikia suggested. Nehru Stadium (Pune)

Nehru Stadium is located in Swargate in the heart of Pune city and was the earlier venue for international cricket matches here, including the famous win for Kenya over the West Indies in the 1996 Cricket World Cup. However, a tussle between the ground's owners, the PMC and the Maharashtra Cricket Association led to creation of a new stadium in Gahunje in the city's outskirts, with all international and IPL matches now being held there. Nehru Stadium is still in high demand for local and corporate tournaments and holds a number of cricket training camps for youngsters. However, the facilities here for players and spectators are quite basic. Dressing rooms are small and almost all stands are open and exposed to extremes of weather.

Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium (New Delhi)

I went to this place during one of the food festivals. The place is quite big, and the events here are decent. The best part about the place is its vibrant crowd. It is near to the metro station, and one can walk and reach the place from the metro station. Though if you are also visiting during a food fest, I will suggest not to carry a water bottle as they will keep it before you enter the place. I gone there for a summit in weight lifting auditorium headed by Hon. P.M. MR. MODI. i feel it is one of the best preserved and maintained public property apart from Ministry, convention halls such as vigyan bhawan , embassy etc. As far as sports facility is concerned it is world class , however there was corruption charges over then govt. but still it is on good shape. Yes, parking facility is inadequate at cuurent scenario.

The Assam Cricket Association deserves laurels and praise for infusing new lease of life to the multipurpose, historic stadium which was conceived and built by widely respected R.G Baruah, the ‘lion man of Assam’. With the construction of sprawling, magnificent modern stadiums at Xaruxojai and Barsa Para for football and cricket respectively, the importance of Nehru stadium started getting relegated to the background since all international and significant national matches are being held in these stadiums much to the chagrin and despondency of the old-timers.
