MUMBAI: With schools in the state reopening on June 15 (those in Vidarbha will start on June 30) and uncertainty over the implementation of the NEP that recommends replacing the 10+2 education structure with the 5+3+3+4, including revamping Class 10 and 12 exams, a section of teachers, students and parents was confused if Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams will be held in the academic year of 2023-24. “There have been concerns about whether board exams, especially for Class 10, will be held next year. The 2023-24 batch of Class 10 and 12 students will take their board exams. The state is in the process of adopting the NEP but it will not be not applicable in the academic year 2023-24,” said Gosavi said the 5+3+3+4 education structure is being wrongly interpreted by the various stakeholders, especially parents. “The five-year foundation level includes three years of pre-primary and two years of primary. Parents are mistaking it for five years of primary (Class 1 to 5), followed by three years of Class 6-8 and three years of Class 9-11,” said Gosavi. Schools too are unclear about the new education policy and its implementation in the coming academic year. “As per the new education system, we will have to make way for Class 5 in the primary section and getting to move will be a task,” said a school principal. Nagpur: Nearly a week after Nagpur University decided to implement On Tuesday, the university issued a statement that the university would not be going ahead with its plans to implement NEP from the current academic year for the undergraduate courses. The administration has also issued a statement in this regard on its website. There was no information on NEP for postgraduate courses. Quoting registrar Raju Hiwase, the statement cited “technical reasons” for the decision. “NU had made complete preparations to implement the NEP from first year courses. All the affiliated colleges too were instructed in this regard from time to time. Due to some technical reasons, NEP will not be applicable to the first-year degree UG course in university affiliated colleges (excluding autonomous colleges) from this session, as per vice chancellor Subhash Chaudhari’s directives,” it said.
