LOS ANGELES, Jan 14 (Reuters) - Netflix Inc has raised its monthly subscription price by $1 to $2 per month in the United States depending on the plan, the company said on Friday, to help pay for new programming to compete in the crowded streaming TV market. The standard plan, which allows for two simultaneous streams, now costs $15.49 per month, up from $13.99, in the United States. Prices also rose in Canada, where the standard plan climbed to C$16.49 from C$14.99. Shares of Netflix gained nearly 3% to $533.84 on Nasdaq after Reuters broke the news of the price rises. They closed 1.3% higher at $525.69. The increases, the first in those markets since October 2020, took effect immediately for new customers. Existing members will see the new prices in the coming weeks when they receive their monthly bills. "We understand people have more entertainment choices than ever and we’re committed to delivering an even better experience for our members," a Netflix spokesperson said. "We’re updating our prices so that we can continue to offer a wide variety of quality entertainment options. As always we offer a range of plans so members can pick a price that works for their budget," the spokesperson added. The world's largest streaming service is facing the most competition ever from companies looking to attract viewers to online entertainment. Walt Disney Co Netflix has added customers despite prior price increases, which shows its members have been willing to accept higher costs, ...

Netflix Is Raising Its Prices Again

Play Streaming was meant to offer an alternative to bundled TV plans, but with so many streaming services available including Disney+ and HBO Max, maintaining multiple subscriptions is not so unusual. One popular strategy is unsubscribing from unused streaming services until a new show comes out. Netflix subscribers will receive an email notification 30 days before their prices changes.

Netflix Subscription: The Plans, The Price And What’s Included

Over the course of the past decade, streaming has become one of the most widely used ways of taking in entertainment, with a seemingly never-ending list of platforms offering a wide range of shows, movies, and other original content. With Sure, the company may not be as inventive as some of Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. (Image credit: Netflix) Like several other streaming services, Netflix offers three ad-free plans (more on the ad-supported option later) to choose from that range anywhere from $9.99 per month to $19.99 per month. But unlike platforms like First, there’s the “Basic” plan which costs $9.99 per month and allows you to stream on a single device at a maximum resolution of 720p, or high definition. Then there’s the “Standard” plan which costs $15.49 per month and allows you to watch on two devices at the same time with a maximum resolution of 1080p, or full high definition. Then there’s the “Premium” plan which costs $19.99 per month but you will be able to stream on four devices (perfect for families) at a maximum picture quality of 4K ultra high definition. Subscribers may have recently been contacted by the company alerting them that the price of their plan will change starting with their next billing cycle. In its initial announcement, Netflix said subscribers will be notified by email 30 days before their price changes arrive. And sure, it’s just another buck or two a month, depending on which plan you’re subscribed to. But taken together with all the other stuff we pay to subscribe to — which may be getting their own price hikes — it all starts to add up!
