Nijat Masood 7th Bowler In History To Take Wicket With First Ball In Test Cricket

In a surprising decision, Afghanistan opted to bowl first on a green track, and Masood, one of the two debutants in the team, made an immediate impact. He dismissed Bangladesh opener Zakir Hasan for just one run in the second over of the match. The dismissal was confirmed after Afghanistan successfully reviewed it for a caught behind. Despite the early setback, Bangladesh showed resilience and fought back strongly. Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mahmudul Joy formed an unbeaten partnership of 110 runs, guiding Bangladesh to a score of 116/1 at lunch. Shanto played aggressively, scoring boundaries with elegant off-drives, and reached his half-century in just 58 deliveries. The Afghan bowlers, apart from Masood's breakthrough, struggled to find the right length and were unable to contain the aggressive batting display of Shanto. Joy played a supportive role, allowing Shanto to dominate the scoring. At the lunch break, Mahmudul Joy remained unbeaten on 38 runs, providing valuable support to Shanto's aggressive batting. Nijat Masood's achievement adds his name to a prestigious list of bowlers who have taken a wicket with their first ball in Test cricket. It includes Richard Illingworth (1991), Nilesh Kulkarni (1997), Chamila Gamage (2002), Nathan Lyon (2011), Shaminda Eranga (2011), Dane Piedt (2014), and Hardus Viljoen (2016).
