Nokia X30 review: Camera quality

No-nonsense dual camera on the back, 16MP selfies For the go-to cameraphone in Nokia's current lineup that the X30 is, the number of image capture modules on it doesn't impress. It only has two cameras on its back, joined by a selfie camera. The main camera on the X30 is based on the Samsung GN5 sensor - a 1/1.56" unit with a 50MP nominal resolution, 1.0µm pixels, and a Tetrapixel filter array. It's the same imager found on the Galaxy S22, only here its paired with a different lens - the specs read an f/1.9 aperture, and from the EXIF data, we're getting a 24mm equivalent focal length (it's f/1.8 and 23mm on the Galaxy). Different as it may be, the lens is still stabilized, a fact that's advertised on the camera bump. The ultrawide camera uses the OmniVision OV13B1 sensor - a conventional design (as in, non-Tetrapixel/Quad Bayer) with a 1/3.06" optical format and 13 million 1.12µm pixels. The lens in front of it covers a 123-degree field of view and has an f/2.4 aperture. Its focus is fixed, unfortunately. That's it - no telephoto, no depth sensor, not even a macro camera. OmniVision is also in charge of selfies, courtesy of the OV16A1 sensor - this one is apparently a 4-cell design (OV's name for Quad Bayer) with a 1/3.06" optical format, a 16MP nominal resolution, and a 1.0µm pixel pitch. The camera app is one of the few custom apps on the Android One Nokia X30. It's been slightly redesigned coming from the G21, but there's not a world of difference between it and any ot...

Nokia X30 5G review: A bit of a stretch

Nokia X30 5G Intro Nokia has a long history in the phone industry. It’s filled with ups and downs, frivolous twists of fate, ominous predictions, and glorious reincarnations. Much like a Shakespearean sonnet. When the license holder HMD decided to quit the flagship smartphone game after the Nokia 9 PureView fiasco many people were left disappointed. That's a lot of paper... Unboxing smartphones is a bleak and lonesome experience nowadays - once you’ve taken the smartphone out of its box you’re left with an empty cardboard shell, remnant of the old and long forgotten days of plenty - when smartphone retail boxes were ancient Cornucopiae or horns of abundance. The box sports a beige “recycled paper” look to emphasize Nokia’s effort in saving the planet but at the same time inside you’ll find a total of 11 paper leaflets that nobody would ever read - a huge chunk of dead trees. In all fairness, it’s probably due to EU regulations on electronic gadget manuals or whatnot. It raises our metaphorical (and physical) eyebrows, though. Nokia X30 5G review: Pros and cons, Verdict

Available in Ice White or Cloudy Blue, the device feels very much like a premium product that has been made with quality materials. The fit and finish of the phone is fantastic. The power and volume buttons are on the right side, and there is a SIM card port and a USB-C port and speakers on the bottom. The rear is polycarbonate, similar to vintage Nokia phones of the past. But for me personally, that isn’t a glaring issue. I, in fact, liked the matte texture finish – it’s smooth like a fine piece of cloth. The front of the phone is dominated by a display, coated in Gorilla Glass for extra protection, and the corners have been toughened with a solid metal frame. The Nokia X30 is relatively thin and much sleeker than my iPhone 14. Though I’d say it’s a bit taller it’s still a manageable size. After reviewing so many smartphones over the years, I don’t know what the ‘right” size of the phone is. The phone is IP67 rated and is water and dust-resistant. Text on web pages and eBooks appeared sharp. (Image credit: Anuj Bhatia/Indian Express) How is the display on the Nokia X30? The Nokia X30 has an impressive display, though the screen is not at the level of what you get on the Galaxy S23. It’s a 6.4-inch AMOLED, FHD+ display with support for a 90Hz refresh rate. I watched a few episodes of Sex Education and found the display bright, crisp, and visually appealing. Text on web pages and eBooks appeared sharp. For me, the impressive part of the display was that I could edit copies ...
