The country’s leading stock exchange, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India, publishes in advance a list of public holidays on which stock market trading is not observed. Besides these market holidays, trading in NSE remains closed on Saturdays and Sundays of the week. This year, NSE has altogether 24 holidays; of which, 16 trading holidays fall during weekdays and eight during weekends. When someone says that today is a market holiday, they usually mean that trading on the stock exchanges including the NSE is closed for that particular day. On these trading holidays, no trade will happen on the equity sector, equity derivative segment and SLB segment.
