About National Sanskrit University: National Sanskrit University, a Central University established is a premier institution in the field of higher learning in Sanskrit studies, Traditional Sastras and Sanskrit Teacher Education. It is funded by the Ministry of Education through UGC. The University has a long history in the service of Sanskrit education. The University was established at Tirupati (A.P.) in 1961 by the Govt. of India on the recommendations of the Sanskrit Commission (1957) as an autonomous body under the name of Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati society. Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, the then Vice President of India laid the foundation stone of the Vidyapeetha on 4th January 1962. The basic objective of setting up the Vidyapeetha is to impart and improve Sanskrit Teacher Education, to accelerate the pace of higher Sanskrit learning and to combine the traditional Sanskrit education with modern scientific research. Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha (RSVP), a university established under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956 is a premier institution in the field of higher learning in Sanskrit studies, Traditional Shastras and pedagogy. It is funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development through UGC. The Vidyapeetha was established at Tirupati(AP) in 1961 by the Govt. of India on the recommendations of Sanskrit Commissions (1957) as an autonomous body under the name of Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Society. The Dvaita Vedanta Department was started in the year 1998, with the effort of then Chancellor, a renowned Sanskrit Scholar, and Economist Dr. V.R. Panchamukhi Ji. Great scholars like Prof. K. Hayavadana Puranik Ji President awardee, Prof. R.G.Malagi Ji worked in the department. Prof. Narasimhacharya Purohit who is a great scholar in Dvaita Vedanta, Naveena Nyaya Shastra. Under Major Research Project he had Published two big Volumes of Dvaita Vedanta Vishva Kosha.

‘Sanskrit Week’ begins at NSU in Tirupati

The Sanskrit Week celebrations began on a grand scale on the National Sanskrit University campus here on Wednesday. Titled ‘Samskruta Sapthaha Samaroh’, the event will have music, dance, literary competitions for students. Academic Dean G.S.R. Krishnamurthy formally inaugurated the event by lighting a traditional lamp. In his address, he said Sanskrit, one of the oldest languages, developed from Proto-Indo-European dialects and had been used to write Vedas and Hindu religious texts. Aruna Sundaram, an academic from Madras Sanskrit College, called Sanskrit as existing from 3,500 years. The university has taken up Spoken Sanskrit as a mission and has tutored more than 4,500 from the common public in Tirupati so far. Between 2017 and 2022, more than 1,600 children have been trained through its ‘Balakendram’, while ‘Balagokulam’ helped 900 children converse in Sanskrit through online classes. During the pandemic, the university conducted over thirty online courses for the benefit of 3,000 students located in 25 countries. Comments Comments have to be in English, and in full sentences.
