Fruits Arts and Crafts Fruit Prints Cut apples or pears in half, dip cut side in paint, and make prints. Watermelon Art Materials: Green and red construction paper Watermelon seeds What to Do: Give each child a circle cut out of green construction paper and a slightly smaller circle cut out of red construction paper. Have the children glue their red circles on top of their green ones. Then let them glue watermelon seeds all over their red circles. Mystery Paint Have the children paint using lemon juice. Let the painting dry overnight. It will be invisible. Place each child’s paper under several layers of newsprint. Lightly iron over the paper with an iron set on high (no steam) until the artwork appears. Ask children to guess why the pictures appeared. Playdough – Strawberry 1 cup flour 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 package unsweetened strawberry Kool-Aid 1/4 cup salt 2 tablespoons cream of tartar 1 cup water Mix flour, salt, cream of tartar and Kool-Aid in a medium saucepan. The Orange Early Childhood Center offers comprehensive programming including a preschool program, enrichment classes and family activities for children from ages two through five. The preschool program offers half, full and extended day options. In addition, we offer enrichment classes for toddlers, preschoolers and parents that are open to both children enrolled in the preschool program and children in the community. Orange Community Education & Recreation’s Early Childhood Preschool is a private preschool licensed by the Ohio Department of Education. This preschool program has been in continuous operation for more than 40 years and offers a quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum that aligns with the Ohio Department of Education's Early Learning and Development Standards. The Orange Early Childhood Preschool offers half-day, full-day and extended day preschool classes for children ages two through five. All lead teachers hold a Pre-K or Kindergarten teaching license issued by the Ohio Department of Education and have extensive classroom experience. Teachers utilize standards-based activities to help children develop vital skills in the areas of social-emotional, physical, language and cognitive development. Registration for the 2022-2023 school year begins Monday, January 31 at 8 am for district resident families not currently enrolled and Friday, February 14 at 8 am for non-district families. Toddler and Pre-school Theme Days Orange Day Having colour theme days is a great way to introduce/teach/reinforce the colours to your toddler. When my youngest son was 2 ½ he showed no interest in learning his colours . We read him a few books about colours and used his colour sorting toys but he still mixed them up. Once we started these theme days he caught on quickly and started to proudly exclaim what colours he was wearing or what colours were on his toys without prompting. He even named what Colour Day he wanted to do next. My eldest son was a little jealous about his little brother getting special theme days so we started to wait until he got home from school to do the colour hunts. Print out the Family Theme Day Planner and decide which activities you’d like to do. PREPARATION: Go through your crayons, markers, paints and construction/craft paper and remove all the orange ones to use for this theme. Set aside any dishes (cups, plates, bowls, plastic spoons etc.) you may have that are orange and use these for snacks, lunch, dinner etc.. Set aside orange clothes for your child to wear that day (and yourself, too, if you’d like). Our Orange Hunt led to some interesting conversations about what signs said and where the line is between Orange and Yellow.
