TD Chedeng may reach typhoon category by Thursday —PAGASA

Tropical Depression Chedeng is expected to become a typhoon in the coming days and become stronger by the weekend, according to PAGASA. “This tropical cyclone may reach typhoon category by Thursday and reach its peak intensity during the weekend while over the Philippine Sea east of Northern Luzon,” the state weather bureau said in its 11 a.m. advisory on Tuesday. Due to this, PAGASA advised concerned public and disaster risk reduction and management offices to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Residents of areas prone to hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. There are no wind signals raised at this time, according to PAGASA. “Wala tayong nakikitang direktang epekto pagdating sa mga wind signal, mababa ang tsansa so mababa din ang tsansa ng heavy rainfall warning,” PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres told Super Radyo dzBB. (We cannot see any direct effect in terms of wind signal, the chance is low so the chance of heavy rainfall warning is also low.) PAGASA said Chedeng is expected to develop into a tropical storm by Wednesday as it gets closer to the country. “Owing to favorable environmental conditions, Chedeng is forecast to intensity in the next 4 days and may be upgraded to tropical storm category by tomorrow,” PAGASA said in At 11 a.m., Chedeng was located 1,170 kilometers east of Central Luzon, packing a maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour (km/h), gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and cent...

Pagasa: Chedeng to exit PAR within next 2 days but habagat may still bring rain

Weather update. Graphics by INQUIRER.net MANILA, Philippines— The southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain, thunder, and lightning to western parts of the country on Saturday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa). These overcast skies and scattered disturbances will affect southern Luzon, and western sections of Visayas and Mindanao— bringing high chances of rain to Metro Manila and western areas of Luzon and Visayas in particular, said weather specialist Daniel Villamil in a morning forecast. Enhanced by Typhoon Chedeng, the monsoon may also bring rains to the following areas tonight until Sunday night: Occidental Mindoro, northern part of Palawan including Calaiman and Cuyo Islands, and Antique. Pagasa also reported that it expects Chedeng to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by Sunday evening or early Monday morning. Last spotted at 4 a.m at 875 km east of northern Luzon, Chedeng will remain far from the country’s landmass and will continue its slow north or northwest movement, according to the weather authority. Chedeng will maintain its strength throughout this weekend before weakening on Monday. However, Pagasa has not ruled out the possibility that the typhoon slightly intensifies in the next 12 hours, noting that Chedeng will exit PAR under the typhoon category. While no wind signals have been raised by the Pagasa, it warned that the typhoon-enhanced monsoon may br...

Chedeng's path away from PH landmass

"Within the day, Typhoon Chedeng is forecast to move northward or north-northeastward. This would be the period where the typhoon recurves," Pagasa weather forecaster James Villamil said. As of 4 a.m. today, Chedeng was seen some 875 kilometers east of Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 185 kph. The state weather bureau estimated that by Sunday, Chedeng will accelerate northeastward toward the sea of Ryukyu Islands and might exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the late evening on Sunday or early morning on Monday. "Slight intensification in the next 12 hours is not ruled out. It will leave PAR as a typhoon category," Villamil added. By signing up with an email address, I acknowledge that I have read and agree to the Pagasa said the Southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Chedeng will bring occasional rains over Occidental Mindoro, northern portion of Palawan, including Calamian and Cuyo Islands. Meanwhile, chances of downpour are likely in Metro Manila, western section of Luzon and the Visayas also due to the Southwest monsoon. Though the issuance of wind signals is unlikely at this time, Pagasa said the enhancement of Southwest monsoon might bring gusty winds over some areas in the country, especially in coastal and upland localities. Starting tonight until tomorrow, Metro Manila, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), Bicol Regio...

'Chedeng' intensifies further, still far from landmass

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 8) –Typhoon Chedeng has intensified further but is still unlikely to bring direct heavy rainfall over any portion of the country in the next three to five days, the state weather bureau said late Thursday evening. In its 11 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Chedeng will remain far from landmass. The typhoon packs maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It was last located 915 km East of Central Luzon. “It is forecast to turn generally northwestward tomorrow afternoon then northward or north notheastward on Saturday,” it added. The weather bureau said the tropical cyclone is expected to exit the country’s weather monitoring area by Sunday evening or Monday morning. No wind signals have been raised at this time but PAGASA said Typhoon Chedeng may result in the enhancement of the southwest monsoon. The typhoon is also unlikely to cause rough sea conditions over the coastal waters of the country in the next 24 hours, it also said. It may bring strong winds over Visayas, Romblon, Occidental Mindoro, the northern portion of Palawan including Kalayaan, Calamian, and Cuyo Islands, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and Camiguin on Friday. The Visayas, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Camiguin, and Dinagat Islands are also expected to experience gusty conditions on Saturday, PAGASA said.
