Synopsis Former Pakistani Prime Minister and current PTI chief Imran Khan on Tuesday was arrested by paramilitary Rangers at the Islamabad High Court where he was attending hearings for two cases. Pakistan has a history of imprisoning prime ministers, and the following is a list of former prime ministers of Pakistan who have spent time in custody at some point. Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, who served as Pakistan's fifth prime minister from September 1956 to October 1957, refused to support Gen Ayub Khan's military coup. As a result, he was banned from politics through the Elective Bodies Disqualification Order (Ebdo) and accused of violating it in July 1960. He was arrested in January 1962 on false charges of "anti-state activities" under the 1952 Security of Pakistan Act and was placed in solitary confinement at Central Jail in Karachi without a trial. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, who was the prime minister of Pakistan from August 1973 to July 1977, was arrested in September 1977 on charges of conspiracy to murder a political opponent in 1974. Benazir Bhutto Benazir Bhutto was the Prime Minister of Pakistan twice, from December 1988 to August 1990 and from October 1993 to November 1996. During the dictatorship of Zia-ul-Haq from 1977 to 1988, she was an opposition leader.
