Shiv Panchakshar Stotra/शिव पंचाक्षर स्तोत्र Shiv Panchakshar Stotra (शिव पंचाक्षर स्तोत्र): The Panchakshara literally means Panch Akshar, i.e. “five letters” in Sanskrit and refers to the five holy letters ‘Na’, ‘Ma ‘,’Si’,’Va’, ‘Ya’. This is prayer to Lord Shiva, and is associated with Shiva’s Mantra Om Namah Shivay, of which Namah Shivay is also called the Panchakshari Mantra. The significance of this Stotra lays in the fact that it is derived from the five elements of nature namely, Earth, Sky, Water, Air and Fire. The 5-syllable mantra is believed to energize and cleanse the aforesaid natural elements. The Shiv Stotra is a most auspicious Stotra (chant) composed by Adi Shankaracharya (8th century CE) in praise of Lord Shiva.
