Pati Patni Aur Woh (2019)

Pati, Patni Aur Woh - Abhinav Tyagi aka Chintu (Kartik Aryan) marries Vedika Tripathi (Bhumi Pednekar) and settles down into an exciting married life and soon both get busy with their respective professional lives in Kanpur. However, the spark slowly diminishes and three years hence, Chintu falls for a temptation that dazzles and disarms him, Tapasya Singh (Ananya Pandey), who becomes a project for him. Remade from the original film by the same name (directed by the legendary B R Chopra) that released over 41 years ago, the new avatar is undoubtedly more contemporary and glamorous. With the central theme remaining rooted to an extramarital affair, director Mudassar Aziz flirts with the characters significantly by introducing several new ones with or without any objective other than prolonging the proceedings. Comparisons with the original reveal that the characters in the new one are somewhat shallow and caricatured. Chintu is usually a bundle of nerves, mostly bumbling, unlike Sanjeev Kumar's middle aged Ranjeet Chaddha in the original who called the shots. The women in the film are more liberated and confident, in line with the times. It does manage to raise a few laughs through the length of 135 minutes, considered far too long for the story that drags after midway. Aparshakti Khurrana must be given credit for his comic timing, and for being the perfect foil to Kartik Aryan. Ananya Pandey infuses a certain freshness with her somewhat vulnerable character. I thought Bhum...

Pati Patni Aur Woh movie review: No laughing matter

Pati Patni Aur Woh movie review: The film’s casual misogyny is problematic. Pati Patni Aur Woh movie cast: Kartik Aaryan, Bhumi Pednekar, Aparshakti Khurana, Ananya Panday, K K Raina, Manu Rishi, Navni Parihar, Geeta Agarwal, Neeraj Sood, Shubham Kumar, Sunny Singh Pati Patni Aur Woh movie director: Mudassar Aziz Pati Patni Aur Woh movie rating: Two stars Kanpur residents Abhinav Tyagi and Vedika Tripathi come together in holy matrimony, and have a good time of it, till boredom strikes. Single, strikingly attractive Tapasya hoves into view. Pati (Aaryan) slips and slides, patni (Pednekar) is left holding the can, with woh (Panday) caught in the middle. The remake of B R Chopra’s 1978 hit has a ready-made template, not that marital infidelity or of any other kind, needs one. This version manages to pull off the same ‘mofussil’ feel, tracking between Kanpur and Sanjeev Kumar’s two-timing ‘pati’s demeanour through the film was one of conquer-em-all smugness. Kartik Aaryan’s 2019 husband mixes a bit of bewilderment and shame-after-the-fact in it. What’s also different, up until a point, is ‘patni’ Vedika’s pleasing upfrontness in matters carnal (‘humein sex bahut pasand hai’, she says, and her would-be spouse’s jaw drops), and other thorny issues: how, for example, do you deal with a younger man’s advances? Why with a mixture of tap-on-the-wrist and shy-sly pleasure. Nicely played. If only this new triangle had made more of Vedika’s spunk, and Tapasya’s spirit, it would have b...

‎Pati Patni Aur Woh (2019) directed by Mudassar Aziz • Reviews, film + cast • Letterboxd

this was not good & bhumi pednekar is too talented for this utter tripe. like even for a comedy about adultery -- I like comedies about adultery!!! -- there weren't even any funny hijinks in the film? the roof scene was okay. but jeez, just rewatch no entry. ananya is talentless next to bhumi. literally would've been a more interesting movie if bhumi just did a double role. • Pati Patni Aur Woh (The Husband, The Wife, and Her) is a funny, light-hearted comedy drama. This tale of a middle-class, topper of the college Indian man from Kanpur named Chintu Tyagi, 3 years into his unsatisfying arranged marriage with Vedika Tripathi, who finds solace in spending time with the Delhi girl Tapasya Singh who he originally meets as a client looking for a space to start her clothing business, hits the right note. It addresses infidelity with an honesty, but never gets too serious or too depressing. Progressive, unpredictable, funny, this is a strong story that conveys many strong messages. Kanpur and Lucknow are well-shot. Director Mudassar Aziz delivers an entertainer for all audiences alike. Red-hot leading man Kartik Aaryan shines.… • A fun one time watch movie. The comedy scenes were genuinely hilarious and a few of the emotions also hit me hard. I laughed a lot at the jokes and the situational comedy. There are a lot of laugh out loud moments in the film. Kartik was really good. I especially enjoyed his monologue and like always he showed good range with his acting. Aparshakti Khu...
