IDES Toolkit

IDES ToolKit About this Toolkit This toolkit is intended to provide quick links to resources and information to assist Marines, families, and staff as they navigate the Department of Navy (DoN) Integrated Evaluation System (IDES) process. Although you will find this toolkit to be useful, you should regularly refer your questions to the subject matter experts, such as your physical evaluation board liaison officer (PEBLO), Limited Duty (LIMDU) coordinators, or Wounded Warrior Regiment staff. Understanding the Disability Evaluation System After a serious injury or illness, a wounded warrior’s fitness for duty may need to be assessed to determine if they are capable of continuing to perform military duties. The process of evaluating a Service Member’s fitness for duty is conducted through the Disability Evaluation System (DES). Forrecovering service members (RSMs)there are two options including the Integrated Disability Evaluation System (IDES) or the Legacy Disability Evaluation System (LDES). The default for RSMs is the IDES.This is collaboration between the Department of Defense (DoD) and VA resulting in both DoD and VA disability rating determinations.LDES referral, a process by which the DoD alonedetermines whether referred RSMs are fit for continued military service and determines appropriate disability rating for those determined unfit who are separate or retired. RSMs should be aware they will not receive a VA rating while on active duty if they choose LDES. RSMs must...

MEB Addendum

I'm wondering when exactly the MEB has to draft an addendum. As I stated in other threads, my MEB was first completed in late december. Initially, they found 2 unacceptable conditions, 1 was added after the IMR and 2 more after the Appeal. Early March, the IPEB found all five conditions unfitting with 4 of them Combat related. I have been waiting for the VA ratings ever since. The PEBLO actually told me it would take about 8 months before getting the ratings from the VA. Now, of course I didn't sit on my posterior. I kept harassing my PCM and the other doctors to get more treatment and referrals, especially for those conditions the MEB found acceptable only because supposedly they haven't reached the MRDP yet, or they state they could not make a decision because all I had documented were symptoms and was not diagnosed for the condition yet. As I said in the last few months I got all these referrals, the diagonses for all these conditions were made and I have getting treatments (therapies, injections and medication). So how all of them get relooked at, does it happen when I appeal to PEB or does the MEB keep monitoring the situation. Also, does the VA keep asking for more medical records throughout the process as I keep getting these referrals and treatment. Finally, would the VA add conditions that were diagnosed after the IDES claim was developed. As I stated in other threads, my MEB was first completed in late december. Initially, they found 2 unacceptable conditions, 1 ...
