Madurai: The success of a few IT companies in Madurai ELCOT will draw many investors to city-based IT firms, said Alex Paul Menon, development commissioner, Madras Export Processing Zone (MPEZ). He was speaking to TOI about the city’s IT potential at the foundation stone laying of Dew software at ELCOT, Vadapalanji on Monday. “Many still see Madurai as a big village. Success of a few can instil confidence in investors, he said. “Three big firms including Dew software, Pinnacle Infotech and ChainSys have their branches now in Madurai, spillover of their success may draw many to Madurai,” added the development commissioner. Earlier, laying the foundation stone for the IT company at ELCOT, finance minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said the upcoming Dew software branch in Madurai might give jobs to 25,000 people and boost the city’s IT infrastructure. SEZs in Tamil Nadu are capable of giving jobs to seven lakh people in the state, said Menon. Since the southern part of the state has not witnessed a major industrial growth, the state government is taking many steps to break this disparity. The latest SEZ...
