Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist: Episodes 11

26 September 7, 2022 Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist: Episodes 11-12 (Final) by In the battle between good and evil, only one side will emerge victorious. And as our story comes to its conclusion this week with the final showdown between our hero and the villains, we are left to wonder if everything is truly over until it is over. EPISODES 11-12 WEECAP Shin-woo’s re-alliance with the council of wickedness makes him vow to his father to kill Poong and retrieve the color-changed needle while at it. He rightly guesses that the needle is with Commander Im (who looked very shocked to see him alive lol), but with Im’s realization that the needle must be very important to the second state councilor, he refuses to give it up for insurance purposes. Poong travels to Hanyang to report the court maid’s death to the king, and pretends to be newlyweds with Eun-woo when they’re questioned by the guards at the city’s gate. This is totally Eun-woo’s idea, and she looks very pleased to be his fake wife. Lol. The king is devastated to learn about the maid’s death, and he orders them to carry out the autopsy of his court lady who died earlier in the show. And to nobody’s surprise, Poong and Eun-woo confirm that she was poisoned just like the late king. Back in the village, Commander Im also links the color-changed needle to the king’s death. And when his addictive drug (a pro-max version of opium) hits the market, Ji-han finally realizes that Commander Im wanted to take over the clinic’s land ...

Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist 2: Episodes 9

7 February 10, 2023 February 10, 2023 Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist 2: Episodes 9-10 (Final) by We have finally (!) come to the end of our sojourn with the Joseon psychiatrist, and boy, I couldn’t be any happier. It’s a typical ending with the villains getting their comeuppance, and a happily ever after for our clinic family. And for us viewers, well, at least we get closure. Sort of. EPISODES 9-10 WEECAP First off, a round of applause and warm hugs for making it through to the final week. Surviving two seasons of this show is no mean feat, and we should definitely get a badge (or bean) of honor for staying till the end. Shout out to Kim Min-jae and that bright smile of his that brought me back every week. I hope to see him in a better production soon. Returning to the finale of this production, our psychiatrist and his bashful lady love get the blessings of her mom — who, apparently, has always been on the Poong-woo ship. And with the approval from Eun-woo’s family, the happy couple return to Sorak to the delight of the clinic family — who are slightly disappointed that they didn’t just hold a wedding at her family’s home. Same sentiments, really. But it’s too soon for happily ever after, because the district governor is unrelenting in Operation Take Poong Down, and he blackmails an immigrant widow to get her to seduce Poong. This scheme serves to shed some light on Nam-hee the chef’s much awaited backstory — as she’s the only family member whose past hasn’t been delved i...

Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist 2: Episodes 1

15 January 13, 2023 January 13, 2023 Poong the Joseon Psychiatrist 2: Episodes 1-2 (First Impressions) by After the abrupt end to its first season, we are back in Joseon with our psychiatrist and his clinic family. Moving from the suburbs to Hanyang brings us in proximity to the palace (and we all know what Joseon palaces are like). But our psychiatrist is not one to run away from a challenge, even if we’d like nothing better than for the family to flee to the safety of the countryside. I mean, why get involved? But then that’s why they are the main players and we’re mere spectators. Editor’s note: Coverage will continue with weecaps. EPISODES 1-2 FIRST IMPRESSIONS We start off with a reintroduction to our titular character, Poong the psychiatrist, who now practices in Hanyang in the company of his faithful servant Man-bok. The Gyesu clinic has also moved to Hanyang with our beloved found family still intact: there’s Granny who remains as eccentric as ever, Jang-goon the computer brain, Nam-hee the chef, Ib-bun the artist and of course, the leader of the pack, Ji-han the money lover. There’s just one familiar face missing: Eun-woo the acupuncturist, and that’s because she has moved to an island after her father received his transfer orders as we saw in the last few minutes of the first season. Since the council of wickedness headed by the second state councilor was already dissolved in the first season, I wasn’t expecting a rehash of all the palace politics — or at least, ...
