What is APC Inaugurated by honourable Chief Minister, Odisha on 6th November 2018, the project focuses to empower small and marginal women farmers by doubling their income sustainability though collectivisation and synchronised production in backward blocks of the State. ‘Promotion of Agriculture Production Cluster (APC) in Tribal Regions of Odisha’ is a collaborative effort by Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, Department of Panchayatiraj & Drinking Water, Mission Shakti, Bharat Rural Livelihood Foundation (BRLF), District Mineral Foundations (DMF) and Professional Assistance for Development Action (PRADAN). The project facilitates the promotion of Producer Groups and Producer Companies (PC) for sustainability by ensuring synchronized production, linkage with stakeholders to optimize production and access different livelihood support infrastructures, orchestrating market ecosystem to actualize better prices. Later, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) partnered with APC in the year 2020-21 to corroborate and substantiate APC’s key outcomes – strengthening Producer Companies and Production & Market System. UDYOGINI, in collaboration with the PRADAN NGO, organized a three-day training cum exposure visit program for farmers in Bhanupratapur, Kanker district, specifically focusing on lac production. The objective of the visit was to educate farmers about best practices in lac cultivation from various villages, enabling them to achieve higher returns on their investment. Day 1 The program commenced with an informative training session at the PRADAN office, where the UDYOGINI team presented a detailed orientation on Semialata and Kusum lac cultivation. The farmers received guidance on cultivation techniques and precautionary measures. This interactive session allowed the farmers to ask questions and engage with the UDYOGINI team, ensuring a clear understanding of lac production best practices. Day 2 On the second day, the participants embarked on an exposure visit to Amajhola and Mardapoti villages in Kanker block, where they witnessed lac cultivation firsthand. The farmers had the opportunity to interact with experienced farmers who shared their insights and techniques on Semialata and Kusum lac cultivation. The farmers, along with the NGO team, expressed their satisfaction with the exposure visit and expressed interest in receiving further training from UDYOGINI to improve their lac cultivation practices.
