Vande Bharat Express crossed the Bahanaga Bazar Station around 9.30 am on Monday, they said adding that the tracks are now fit to operate trains in both the up and down lines. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw was present at the accident site and waved to the drivers when the semi-high-speed train passed through. officials said. Two other passenger trains like Howrah-Puri Express and Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Sampark Kranti Express also passed through the up and down line respectively early on Monday. The Vande Bharat express had slowed down to a crawl as it passed by the site of Friday night’s train crash near Bahanga Bazar station, providing passengers a close up glimpse of the evidence of the horror — a few upturned coaches, a crane and workers cleaning up the site. The Howrah-Puri Vande Bharat on Monday was the first passenger train to pass through the area in day time after authorities opened the tracks following the accident, which killed 275 people and injured more than 1,200. “Ish …,” said Kanika Chaudhury, 56, using the Bengali expression to convey shock, adding “dekhle koshto hoy(Its painful to watch)”. Kolkata, Jun 4 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday questioned the death figures given by the Ministry of Railways in the triple train crash in Odisha's Balasore, stating that 61 people from her state were dead and 182 were still missing. Banerjee asked questions on whether Vande Bharat engines were up to the mark. "If from one state, 182 are missing and 61 are confirmed dead, then where would the figures stand?" she asked, addressing a press conference at the state secretariat, Nabanna. At least 275 people were killed and 1,175 injured in the triple train accident in Balasore, according to officials. Three trains— Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah super fast and a goods train — were involved in Friday's accident, now being described as one of India’s worst train accidents. The 22896 Vande Bharat Express was going towards Howrah from Puri when the incident occurred about 30 km from the Bhadrak Railway Station at 4.30 p.m. The train remained stationary at the Baitarani Road railway overbridge for over three hours. “Vande Bharat from Puri to Howrah was stranded between Baitarani Road and Manjuri Road since 4.30 PM on Sunday due to Overhead wire damaged by storm near Bhadrak. A big tree had fallen on track,” the East Coast Railway said in a statement. “A diesel relief engine was pressed into service as overhead wires got damaged. The diesel engine brought Vande Bharat train upto Manjari Road, The diesel engine was attached to Vande Bharat train at 8.05 pm,” the statement added.
