Cyclone Mocha: Rain Hits Kolkata Due to Cyclonic Circulation; More Thunderstorms Expected

Kolkata experienced rainfall due to cyclonic circulation in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday. Even though it is unrelated to Cyclone Mocha forming over the southeastern Bay of Bengal. Meteorologists predicted a dry spell in Kolkata and other districts from May 6 to May 12. The state is expected to have a change in weather from Friday. The whirlwind cloud is slowly approaching. Meanwhile, the weather office of Alipur has predicted rain across the state today. Rain will continue in different parts of the state today. The wind office said that today in the districts of South and North Bengal, gusty winds of 30-40 kmph will occur with rain at all places. Stormy rain will reduce in South Bengal from the 5th. On the other hand, stormy rain will continue in North Bengal till the 6th. However, the meteorological department also said that there will be a change in the state's weather from Friday. Meanwhile, low pressure is likely to intensify over the Bay of Bengal over the weekend. Due to this the cyclone of the new week can be formed. "Judging by the current developments, from May 7, there may be a period of low pressure. This will be followed by depression the next day. From May 9, we could be able to identify a cyclone," said Das. Two consecutive RMC bulletins on Thursday and Friday would be able to provide more clarity on the cyclone, its movement, and its expected landfall, Das added.

South Bengal to experience heavy rain in next 2 days

KOLKATA: The The weatherman said the cyclonic circulation lying off the coast of Myanmar is likely to move towards the West Bengal coast, leading to rain at many places in Kolkata is among the places likely to receive heavy rain. A by-election to the Bhabanipur assembly seat in south Kolkata, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting, is scheduled to be held on Thursday. The Met department forecast heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places in South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur and Paschim Medinipur districts on Tuesday. Heavy rain has been forecast in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, Jhargram and North 24 Parganas districts on Tuesday. A downpour is likely to occur in all these districts, besides Bankura and Purulia, on Wednesday also, the weatherman said. The Met department warned that the downpour may cause rise in water level of rivers, waterlogging in low-lying areas in cities and towns and damage to standing crops. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into deep sea till September 29 owing to squally weather. The state had received heavy rainfall early last week leading to waterlogging in and around Kolkata.
