A Traveller's Guide to Varkala

In years to come, much of what travellers call Varkala will be gone. The slow coastal erosion will see the curving clifftop lane which houses souvenir stalls, cute restaurants, and undercover bars with balconies, become narrower and less welcoming each year. The sea will come closer, and eventually they will tumble, causing red clouds of dust to plume upward against a clear blue sky. The prophetically named Cafe del Mar may even live upto its title, and be swallowed whole by the surf to be the cafe of the sea in the sea. For now, that moment is however a long way off, and the unique clifftop residence of Varkala which will one day be its (literal) downfall is presently the thing which makes its so alluring, so seductive. This place - or at least the part which we travellers will spent most time in over the course of a week - straddles the Venn diagram of chilled out backpacker enclave, holy place for Hindus, and downward dog hub for aspiring yogis. It remains the perfect option to enjoy the chilled out serenity of Kerala, to work on your tan, and enjoy the sunshine. It’s likely to be your first or last stop in Kerala depending on your flight paths, and we would totally e...

Varkala Cliff (Varkala Town)

The Cliff in Varkala shore is good for walk, fun and spend nice time. It's strecth of appx.2-3 kms ok cliff, most of stay restaurant, Cafe and shopping are on this stretch. It extends between helipad and black sand beach. Happening location, suits across all age group for 1/2 day leisure time spend. It was a mesmerising. Expierience Just feel amazed when I saw varkal cliff Pure veg food corner should be there. Bcoz many vegetarian people are coming. And they have to compromise with multi using resto. Rest all perfect Ice gola was wooooowwwww Darjeeling café is having awsum looks Waiting for a day to come again Seriously? This is just a cliff. Nothing special at all about the cliff itself. But of course, if you are on top of the...hill... you have a great view of the ocean. And sunset if the timing is correct. So if you are in varkala, you should definately go to the beach or the cliff around sunset. It's beautiful. But the cliff? It's a rock. Or well.. Rocks... with a path or stairs if you like, from the beach to the top. Nothing more. On top you find a pathway full of restaurants and small shops. Locals and tourists. Enjoy. Beautiful holiday destination specially north cliff . vibes are similar to Goa and that's why it is called mini Goa also. Sea side restaurants and sea view from cliff is amazing. Resort are available at cliff . ite better to entre from helipad parking side as climbing to clif is easy and there is wide road to enter the cliff. 1. Varkala Beach, also kno...
