By- Amit Kumar KARNAL: The rain spell on Friday left many areas of Karnal city submerged and the residents had to wade through the waterlogged roads and streets over the day. As per the information, over 76 mm of rain was reported in the district. The areas where waterlogging was reported includes Sectors 6,7,8,9, 13, 14, Railway Road, Model Town, Basant Vihar, Committee Chowk, Mughal Canal, Vikash Nagar. Some areas reported knee-deep water, which didn’t recede till evening. Even water entered the shops at Committee Chowk and other parts of the city. The residents alleged that the civic body did not clean the drains, led this situation. Commuters had to face problems in many parts of the city and due to waterlogging, vehicles movement were affected. “Today’s rain shows the reality of a smart city. A hefty amount was spent on the name of smart city, but the ground reality is different. Chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar represents Karnal in the assembly.,” said a city resident. On the other hand, the rain has raised the worries of the paddy farmers. who came in mandis with their produce. The water soaked the paddy grains in the mandis. They also demanded the government and arhiyas to start the procurement at earliest.
