The leader also cut a cake, brought by his supporters, with Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and a loudspeaker imprinted on it. MNS workers from Raigad arrived in Mumbai with a cake with a picture of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and a loudspeaker. • Loudspeakers remained switched off during azaan at several places in Maharashtra, including Parbhani, Osmanabad, Hingoli, parts of Jalna, Nanded, Nandurbar, Shirdi and Shrirampur. At some places, they were used on low volume. • About 250-260 MNS workers have been detained across the state. Mumbai police detained several MNS workers gathered outside Raj Thackeray's residence, officials sad. In Pune, eight MNS workers were detained, they said. • "I have been receiving calls from several parts of the state and outside. At many places, my party's workers have been detained and issued notices. Those who are following the law are being detained and those who don't are going scot-free," Mr Thackeray told the media. He said the issue is "not only about mosques and there are several temples with illegal loudspeakers". • The MNS chief stressed that this is "not a one-day issue". "If mosques don't follow guidelines, then Hanuman Chalisa will be played at double volume. Students and ill people suffer because of loudspeakers. MNS chief Raj Thackeray on Friday shared a cryptic post along with Balasaheb Thackeray's audio quote on Twitter, just a short while after the MNS chief Raj Thackeray Raj Thackeray captioned the post in Marathi: “How accurate was the idea of 'Shiv Sena' given by Balasaheb, it was once again known today...” - apparently welcoming of the EC's order. While the issue was pending with the EC, the bow and arrow symbol was frozen temporarily. During the bypoll, the Shinde faction was allotted two swords and a shield symbol, and the Uddhav faction was allotted a flaming torch symbol. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray faction has hit out at the election commission. “ECI has lost all credibility. The decision shows the impact of 'Khoke' (boxes),” Raut said in an apparent reference to allegations of Shinde faction MLAs taking money to switch sides. He added, “We don't need to worry. Amid the ongoing uproar over the images of Aurangzeb being shared online, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray celebrated his 55th birthday by cutting a cake that carried the infamous Mughal ruler’s picture. The cake with Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and a loudspeaker imprinted on it was brought to the MNS leader by his supporters from Raigad, ANI reported. In a dramatic ceremony, the video of which has gone viral, Raj Thackeray, known for his fierce pro-Hindu rhetoric, took a knife and symbolically cut Aurangzeb’s throat (in the image imprinted on the cake) amid cheers and clapping by the gathering. — ANI (@ANI) This comes as Maharashtra is already reeling from a controversy related to Aurangzeb’s images going viral on social media. Tension gripped Kolhapur last week after two men allegedly put 18th-century Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan and Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s image along with an offensive audio message as their social media status. The next day, the police had to disperse hundreds of protesters after they hurled stones during a demonstration at Shivaji Chowk. The cake carried pictures of loudspeakers as well, a symbol which has largely been associated with Raj Thakceray’s campaign against Azan being played in loudspeakers in Maharashtra. The use of loudspeakers, especially during Azan - the Muslim call for prayer, has been a huge and contentious issue in Maharashtra politics with leaders like Devendra Fadnavis and even Uddhav Thackeray being vocal about it....
