Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh AMU City School

The School started in 1889 in an old Building by Maulana Bahadur Ali and his associate, it was initially named as Anjuman-e Islamia Primary School Later on it became Mohammadan Anglo Oriental Collegiate, City Branch in 1919 & then became Muslim University City School. The School then shifted to its present building in 1928. Sahabzada Aftab Ahmad, Maulvi Samiullah Khan, Maulvi Abdul Khalique, Deputy Habibullah Khan, Abdul Majeed Khwaja and Alhaj Obaidur Rehman Khan Sherwani the prominent figures who were close associates of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and contributed a lot to the establishment of the School. Maulana Tufail Ahmad Manglori was the first founder manager of the School. The School has been catering the educational needs of the Aligarh City population particularly belonging to under privilege, middle and lower middle classes of the society. The school from I TO V (PRIMARY SECTION) & VI to XII at present there are approximately 1700 students on School's enrolled. The School prepares Students for Secondary School & Sr. Secondary Schoolcertificate Examination Conducted by the AMU Board. LUCKNOW: Jat king and freedom fighter Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh, who leased 3.04 acre land to set up In October this year, while campaigning for byelections in Aligarh’s Iglas assembly seat, CM Yogi Adityanath had announced that his government would set up a university in Singh’s name, who despite having made great contributions to AMU, was not being recognised for it. On Monday, UP cabinet cleared the proposal to set up a state university in Aligarh, named after the Jat freedom fighter. “He had given land for the purpose (of establishing the university) but his name has not been mentioned on any plaque,” the CM had said during his election campaign when promising to set up a university in Singh’s name. Singh was an alumnus of the Mohammedan Anglo Oriental College which went on to become AMU. Singh has become a bone of contention between AMU and BJP over the past few years. By Aishwarya Paliwal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the stone of the university named after Maharaja Mahendra Pratap Singh, who donated land for Aligarh Muslim University. According to the university's land records, Raja Mahendra Pratap leased 1.221 hectares (3.04 acres) of land in 1929 at Rs 2 per annum to the university. Maharaja Mahendra Pratap Singh's legacy has been embroiled in controversy because his ancestors have been demanding that his portrayal be displayed at Aligarh Muslim University. He was an alumnus of Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental Collegiate School, founded by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, which later on became Aligarh Muslim University and the land which he donated to the university was his way of paying respect to the institution. He did not complete his graduation, but he was felicitated during the centenary celebrations of the university in 1977. Apart from his donation and his fight for India's freedom, he was also nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize nominee in 1932. After years of back and forth and many controversies, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh decided to set up a state university named after Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh in Aligarh. A resolution was passed in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet and an ordinance was subsequently issued on November 25, 2020.
