A goods train derailed near Rajahmundry railway station in Andhra Pradesh early Wednesday, resulting in cancellation of nine trains. According to officials of South Central Railway, Vijayawada Division, the goods train derailed on the main line at Rajahmundry yard around 3 a.m. Following the incident, the railway authorities were allowing movement of trains on one track. This has led to cancellation of nine trains. Two other trains were partially cancelled and one train was rescheduled. Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam, Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada, Guntur-Visakhapatnam, Visakhapatnam-Guntur, Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada, Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada-Guntur, Guntur-Vijayawada and Kakinada Port-Vijayawada have been cancelled.

RAJAHMUNDRY: The train accident survivors on board Coramandel Express were a relieved lot as they returned to Rajahmundry. Y Muralikrishna, who was travelling in B-8 compartment, heard the sound of big explosion when the train met with the accident. He saw all bogies near his compartment falling apart and electric poles getting shattered. He said local people rescued them with the help of cell phone lights. He said that he could not stay at the accident site even for a minute as he was not able to take in the chaos. He took a bus from there and reached Balasore, which is 40 kilometers away from the accident spot. Later, he returned to Rajahmundry in a special train.

RAJAHMUNDRY: One compartment of a goods train derailed in Rajahmundry around 3 a.m on Wednesday. Following this, several trains were cancelled and some long-distance trains got delayed up to six hours. The railway teams restored the track by 10 a.m. The goods train derailed at the railway over bridge near Rajahmundry station. During the repair works, trains were operated on single track. The goods train which was carrying cars derailed minutes after it left the railway yard in Rajahmundry. Technical and rescue teams were pressed into service and they put the compartment back on track after hours of hard work. Later, they cleared the track by removing the compartment using a large crane. The railway cancelled nine trains completely and two trains partially. Train No 12718 Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam, 12717 Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada, 17239 Guntur-Visakhapatnam, 17240 Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada, 22701 Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada, 22702 Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam, 07628 Vijayawada-Guntur, 07864 Guntur-Vijayawada and 17257 Kakinada Port-Vijayawada were cancelled. Train No 17258 Kakinada Port-Vijayawada was partially cancelled between Kakinada and Vijayawada and 07768 Vijayawada-Rajahmundry was partially cancelled between Tadepalligudem and Rajahmundry.
