It was formally established on January 29, 1938 as a branch of the Ramakrishna Mission to propagate the message of Vedanta as propounded by Sri Ramakrishna. Vision and Mission of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission

Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) is established, administered and run by Ramakrishna Mission (sponsoring society of the University), a registered society started by Swami Vivekananda in 1897. Ramakrishna Mission is a well-known and reputed non-governmental organization (NGO) serving the society in India and abroad irrespective of caste, colour, creed, religion, nationality, gender, regional bias etc., through its vast network of nearly 200 branch-centres in the fields of education, cultural and spiritual activities, health, relief and rehabilitation, rural and tribal development, publications, teaching and preaching, and a large number of allied areas all of which are for the all-round development of the individual and the society as a whole. Based on the ideology bequeathed by Swami Vivekananda, namely, ‘selfless service is the real worship of God in man’, ‘for one’s own liberation and for the welfare of the world’, Ramakrishna Mission has been silently serving the society since its inception at the turn of the twentieth century and is now well known as an established and accepted charitable, philanthropic, non-profit, non-governmental organization started by Swami Vivekananda. Ramakrishna Order Centers Worldwide

Centers Worldwide The Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission have 208 centers all over the world : 157 in India, 15 in Bangladesh, 14 in USA, 2 each in Russia and South Africa, and one each in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Fiji, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal, Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, UK and Zambia. There 41 sub-centers (18 within India, 23 outside India) under different centers. Founded in 1933 and located on New York City's Upper Eastside on 94th Street between 5th and Madison Ave. The Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center of New York is an accredited branch of the Ramakrishna Order of India. The Center bases its teachings on the System of Vedanta, which combines both the religion and philosophy of Hinduism. The Center seeks to stimulate the growth of the individual's innate spirituality through lectures, discourses, publications, and individual guidance.

Disciples • Swami Shivananda (1854–1934), born Tarak Nath Ghosal, was a Mahapurush Maharaj (Great Soul). Shivananda and Early life [ ] Shivananda was born in the village of After completing his school studies, Tarak took up a job with Mackinnon Mackenzie in Calcutta to help his father. The building of Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong at the present site was completed and in the same year this center got affiliation the headquarters of Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math. It was a dream came true which was conceived by revered Swami Prabhanandaji Maharaj (Ketaki Maharaj) which was put forth at the managing committee in 1929 at the Jagarnath Temple Premises in which Swami Shankaranandaji Maharaj happened to be present. Swami Bhuteshanandaji Maharaj became the first secretary of the Mission... A little About Us Shillong Branch of this organization was started in 1929 at Laitumkhrah and duly registered in 1937. At present, it runs a hostel for tribal boys, a Library a Charitable Dispensary and a Mobile Medical Unit from the same location. The Vivekananda Cultural Centre came into existence in 1993. It runs a computerized Library,Drawing & Painting courses for kids,Computer Training for the youth, Sanskriti a weekly cultural training Programme for children and a biweekly Youth Forum.
