New Delhi: Rani Lakshmibai, known for her exemplary courage and bravery, is being remembered by many on her death anniversary today. In 1858, Rani Lakshmibai, also known as the Rani of Jhansi, died fighting British colonial rulers near Gwalior in a place known as Kotah-ki-Serai. She was one of the first women freedom fighters of India who revolted against the British in 1857. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was one of the first leaders today to pay his respect to Rani Lakshmibai. Rani Lakshmibai was born on November 19, 1828 near Varanasi. Her father Moropant Tambe, who worked for Peshwa Baji Rao II, named her Manikarnika. Nicknamed Manu, she was known to be a courageous child. Manikarnika was brought up by her father as her mother died when she was only four. Very early in life she was trained in horse riding and sword fight. In March 1858, Jhansi came under the siege of the British East India Company forces after a fierce battle. Rani of Jhansi along with her soldiers did not concede defeat even after being outnumbered. She continued the battle and fought valiantly till her last breath. Rani of Jhansi died in an encounter with the East India Company's forces near Gwalior in 1858. Rani Laxmibai is still considered as the symbol of resistance to British colonial rule.

'खूब लड़ी मर्दानी वो तो झांसी वाली रानी थी' ये कविता आज भी रानी लक्ष्मीबाई की वीरता की गाथा बयां करती है. एक समय था जब एक-एक कर कई राजाओं ने अंग्रेजों के सामने घुटने टेक दिए थे लेकिन झांसी की रानी (Queen of Jhansi) लक्ष्मीबाई ने अपने साहस के दम पर अंग्रेजों को धूल चटाई थी. उन्होंने सिर्फ़ 29 साल की उम्र में अंग्रेज साम्राज्य की सेना से जद्दोजहद की और रणभूमि में वीरगति को प्राप्त हुईं. रानी लक्ष्मीबाई(Rani Lakshmibai) ने झांसी की रक्षा के लिए सेना में महिलाओं की भर्ती की थी. लक्ष्मी बाई ने महिलाओं कोयुद्ध का प्रशिक्षण दिया था.साधारण जनता ने भी अंग्रेजों से झांसी को बचाने के लिए हुएइस संग्राम में सहयोग दिया था. 2. मराठा ब्राह्मण से आने वाली मणिकर्णिका बचपन से ही शास्त्रों और शस्त ज्ञान की धनी थीं. इनके पिता मोरोपंत मराठा बाजीराव (द्वितीय) की सेवा करते थे और मां भागीरथीबाई बहुत बुद्धीमान और संस्कृत को जानने वाली थी. लेकिन मणिकर्णिका के जन्म के बाद 4 साल ही उन्हें मां का प्यार नहीं मिल पाया, 1832 में उनकी मृत्यु हो गई. 3. 1842 में 14 साल की उम्र में मणिकर्णिका का विवाह झांसी के राजा गंगाधर राव नेवालकर से हुआ. राजा गंगाधर राव झांसी के एक योग्य मराठा राजा थे. उनके कार्यकाल से पहले झांसी अंग्रेज़ों के कर्ज तले दबी हुई थी. लेकिन सत्ता में आने के बाद कुछ ही सालों में उन्होंने अंग्रेज़ों को बाहर कर दिया. इस वक्त में रानी मणिकर्णिका उनके साथ थी. 4. रानी लक्ष्मीबाई और राजा गंगाधर ने बेटे को जन्म दिया था जो कि सिर्फ 4 महीने ही जीवित रह सका. राजा गंगाधर ने अपने चचेरे भाई का बच्चा गोद लिया और उसे दामोदार राव नाम दिया गया. 5.रा...
