India's biggest-ever IPO, state-owned insurance giant Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), listed its shares at a discount of over 8 per cent on the BSE and the NSE on Tuesday. On the BSE, LIC launched at Rs 867.20 per share, a discount of 8.62 per cent from its mega initial public offering (IPO) allotment price of Rs 949. The tepid listing has resulted in a sharp drop in the market capitalisation of the country's largest insurer. At the issue price of Rs 949, the market capitalisation of LIC stood at Rs 6,00,242 crore. At the listing price, the valuation of LIC dipped to Rs 5,57,675 crore, resulting in a loss of around Rs 42,500 crore. The insurance behemoth's shares were last trading at about Rs 883, nearly 7 per cent lower than its issue price, but a gain of about 2 per cent from its listing price, as of 14:15 Indian Standard Time (IST).The share rose to a high of Rs 920 in the morning trade. Synopsis LIC's shares climbed almost 4% to Rs 615.6 in intra-day trading on the back of a standalone net profit of Rs 13,428 crore during the quarter ended March. This was 466% more than the same quarter last year. Despite its good performance, the insurer's net premium income fell 8% to Rs 1.31 lakh crore in the March quarter, compared with Rs 1.43 lakh crore the previous year. Income from investments rose marginally to Rs 67,846 crore for the January-March period versus Rs 67,498 crore the previous year, while the net commission rose 5% to Rs 8,428 crore. However, its net premium income fell 8% to Rs 1.31 lakh crore during the March quarter, compared with Rs 1.43 lakh crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. LIC's first-year premium during the reporting quarter stood at Rs 12,811 crore, down 12% from Rs 14,614 crore in the year-ago quarter. Income from investments rose marginally to Rs 67,846 crore for the January-March period versus Rs 67,498 crore in the same period last year. Net commission during the quarter rose 5% to Rs 8,428 crore. The same stood at Rs 7,996 crore in the previous year's period. For the full year, the insurer's profit declined 10% to Rs 36,397 crore as against Rs 40,431 crore reported in fiscal 2022. A year after the listing of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India, the insurance behemoth will hold international roadshows, beginning in Hong Kong later this month. The non-deal roadshows of LIC are scheduled between June 25 and June 29, sources said, adding that the meeting will also be held in the United Kingdom (UK). These roadshows are aimed at creating awareness among global investors post-listing of LIC shares, the sources said. It has been a little over one year since LIC was listed on the stock exchanges. The non-deal roadshows will offer investors a comprehensive look at the company's story. It also aims at fostering effective communication between the executive team and investors. According to the sources, the top management of LIC will interact with global investors through a series of meetings spread over five days and highlight the strength of the company. The management will urge the investors to invest in LIC scrips as the company has huge potential, the sources said.
